Like I need another. I picked up a neglected 16' Sea Dorry for a good price yesterday.

Lee, more pics please.
looking forward to your assessment on what needs to be addressed,
Very jealous of your boat house/shop :-)
More photos this evening.
The shop is a short term rental where I am working on a large order of driver training kits. I wish it was mine. Next week it will be full of pipe and my crew.
Nice boat Lee, a good project to keep you young.🙂
Would be great to take that boat out on the lake where I can sit under cover as I'm supposed to limit my sun exposure.
Always liked that hull. Won't do the 45 knots in 20 foot seas that Ted demands, but it will always get you there.
Please understand Ted, I love your boat, and you always give me and my kidneys the ride of our lives!

still jealous, good to have access to a large space like that.
driver training kits???
Quite a few c-dorys here in MI, they rarely change hands and when they do, the asking is nearly the same as a new one.
Bryan, I use a Costco sun hat (mini sombrero ) to keep the sun off, I gotta watch ma tan ;D
She is home now, well in the neighbors pasture.

Time for the pressure washer. I took 6" of pine needles and poplar seeds out of her.

Congrats on the new boat, Lee !
Lee, is that Mary rolling her eyes...not another boat... :D :D :D
The dory is nice Lee. Is that aluminum pontoon boat for harvesting algae?

Yes, I had a charged battery and a tank of fresh gas and it fired right up. It needs spark plugs.

Yes, it is a algae harvester. The header belt has not been installed yet.

I work for a new and growing company connected to a mid size European pharmaceutical company. They were in the red until last year. It is time to expand.
Out with the old, including a loran.

Awesome project Keta, Look forward to updates...
Now, the big trick here, is to watch how far you go with this project,,, in my case, I just kept adding things to the to do list on mine and it
Eventually became a complete re build, It's my OCD shining thru LOL.
Love the cabin on your project, That makes a HUGE difference to have that protection while out in less than favourable conditions...

Yeah. It's a cool project. They have a first class video about your area on their web site. It's a beautiful part of the world.
I guess you're trailering the boat to the coast?

The current plan is to strip all of the after market wiring and replace it then install the Lowrance radar, Lowrance DHS chart plotter ICOM VHF, and Scotty electric downriggers that I currently have. A friend has a i-Pilot electric trolling motor that does not work he is going to donate and my landlord at my shop is donating a auto pilot. Future plans are electric window wipers, hydraulic steering and Honda 40 or 50 motor and a 6 horse trolling motor, depending on how much work I get this year and how $ I get for selling my big boat. Still a lot of work to do before it is ready for the ocean but I'd fish it on the lakes as soon as the steering is fixed.

It is too dry for my liking and the growing season too short but the anchor (wife) loves it here. There was ice on the water trough yesterday but frost season should be over now.....but we have had snow in July.
Yes, I plan on fishing the ocean with it as well as lakes. I can tow it with my Jeep Liberty and it does not cost a arm and leg to pull like my big boat. It should get better than 8-12 GPH on the water....much better.
Nice project, Lee --
I know you will get it all pulled together in an orderly fashion that makes sense for you.
With the skills and contacts you have -- it will be a capable vessel soon.
Those are outstanding sea-worthy boats in weather.
Best,
Fred

I am not big on smaller boats on the ocean but the Sea Dorry is a exception. A friend in Alaska had this same set up and he went everywhere in it. I will have to watch the weather but I would trust it for 20+ miles out on good days. I plan on taking it to Baja too.
That is amazingly close to my 16' antique Boston Whaler Lee. When I come up we can buddy boat 20 miles out.
Nice boat , interesting project Lee, if anyone can do it, you can, looking forward to your pics as you go, cheers don.
amigo, how many guys can fish comfy on that boat?
I never find deals. That is a nice boat, even if it requires some work. Dominick

It is really a 2 person boat but in a pinch 3.
Several of these boats in Puget sound and they are well liked by thier owners. Even has a small cuddy up front. It will certainly be a great offshore boat on those good weather days.

More like 20 knots in 2' swell at 40 second intervals and need I remind you that you were sitting in a high back air ride suspension seat ?¿?
Guess I'll hafta reinstall the old seats so we can jar your spine and make you 2" shorter. Yep, I used to be 6'5", now I'm just 5'10
A friend and former employer makes suspension seat bases and I am considering trading labor for a pair. As of now I plan on taking the buffered seat posts out of my stripper and using them.
Lee, he is getting there. He told me to stay home until he got the new flooring in because of construction. But I will be going up soon to put lighting on the garage and sheds. I have an appointment Monday to check out a lighting job here, hopefully it will be smaller than the last. We'll see.
I have a bench style in my boat, so no go for a suspension seat. I will be a bit jealous there.
suspension seats are really nice.
Nice little rig there Lee. I see a few of those around here and my buddy has the 23 footer. You will find that it will be a drean trolling with the 4 stroke and wont even use the kicker. I know I don't anymore as my 90 does not burn much fuel, is quieter than kicker, better turning control plus those small 4 strokes are good for thousands of hours. One guy I know has 4500 hours on a 50. I put hydraulic on my boat two years ago and wish I installed it from the start ....................... night and day difference compared to teleflex !!
Ahoy:

I am working in the Chiloquin area now.
That's cool. Hope I get to see you when I'm up.
I removed the VOR pump, cut the wires and put in a non VRO fuel pump. Heading to Klamath Lake for a "3 hour tour" (test run). Will post photos when/if I get back.... ;D
The motor runs rough and does not come up to RPM under load, 3 hour tour was 29 min.

The weather did not start getting rough and the tiny ship was not tossed.
Ha, Lee, I laughed out loud at that one.
I am thinking of naming her the Sea Sparrow, Ouzel or Minnow....wife says none of the above. I like Sea Sparrow. I gave
a month to come up with a name then it will be Sea Sparrow.
Don't call it the minnow, remember what happened to the Captain & Gilligan. ;D ;D Hmmm, $ea $parrow ::)
"The Skipper brave and sure..."
Nice area Chiloquin, some of the local people---not so much. I worked 13 miles North at the Fort Creek farm for a year while living down in the ' Falls.
I like "Ouzel". Maybe your wife(without saying it to you) wants you to name it after her or your daughter. When I registered my personal locater beacon with NOAA, they wanted a vessel name: She gave me "Ting-ting" which I wrote in permanent marker. Now that I think about it, it kinda sounds like a nick-name and it's way faded-out so I godda re-do it.
Lookin forward to more of this saga Lee.
Gfish has it down. What is your wife's name? Maybe you can incorporate it with Ouzel like Ouzel Marie. Dominick
I do not think she would like the boat to be named the Fataz.... ;D
Got me thinkin bout it, so I looked it up. Ting ting is a Chinese name for girls which means; "slim and graceful".
Ah, yeah...That's exactly how she is and how I see her! Perfect name, right dear?
The motor is sick from e-10 setting in the carborators for years, rebuild kits are around $60.00. I need to get a 3rd job to buy a new Honda 40hp ($7000) as I feel it is not cost effective to dump too much into a 32 year old 2 stroke. I might convert my Honda 9.9 from extra long shaft to long shaft and use it until I have the funds.
Today I installed the Lorance DHS7 Gen3 chart plotter and mounted 2 of the transducers and started on the Garmin. The onboard battery charger is hung and needs to be wired.
Lee,
I have been eyeing a 15 hp efi for flatbottom river boat,
Tohatsu/Suzuki will run ya 4k ish, still a lot of coin but I hondas are just overpriced.
https://onlineoutboards.com/collections/suzuki-30-hp-outboards
The lowrance is wired and ready, I need to pull the transducer out of the other boat and finish the Garmin.
More wires to do.
Old motor is gone.
New motor hung. I am running controls now.
Finished the motor install and l am 7 hours into the 8 hour break in. On Friday I scored a little used pair of Scotty Strongarm downriggers with swivel bases and 3 balls for less than the price of the bases and 3 jars of honey. I could have got it for the honey but the new price for what I got would have been over $600 so I made him take some $. Today I will be mounting them aft of the Scotty electric downriggers I had.... no more PIA stacking when kokanee fishing.

Looks like you're doing a great job Lee!
Boat looks good!
Sal
Looks like a winner! Crazy thing, there's a yellow one around here with that same motor. They pulled in two kings the other day.

They are a fishy boat.
Lee, how fast did you go during break in?
Good snag on the scotty!
Troll speed for 15 minutes, 900-3000 Tom for 2 hours changing RPM often and no more than 1/2 of the time at 3000 RPM. Then 900-4000 with short bursts up to 5000 RPM, again changing RPM often. I am now running full throttle for shore periods of time. One more hour and it is done.
wow , exited just to see how you are getting everything coming along, salmons beware
Great work Lee.

Looks good Lee, if your wife is keen on fishing, then you two should get a lot of fun from that boat, good luck, cheers Don.
She is a "Charley Tuna", chicken of the sea but likes to fish on lakes. The river we fished is all flat water in the section we fished and flows into Klamath Lake a few miles from the launch.
Williamson R.?
Yes, below the Modoc Point Road bridge.
Fish killin' boat for sure Lee....Bill
