How far back in the past?

If a BFT from 2013 is far enough back, I'd recently (had to dig back through 4 years of Facebook posts to find it) put this one up in the Fishing Tips and Techniques section:

If insufficient , I'll see if I can hook up to another corvina out of San Diego Bay like the one I'd caught last Saturday and post a pic...

Feeding Yellowtail, Nov 2008.  Second photo on the same day, Rod, gaff and camera all at the same time!
Thought I would add the days catch.   These fish are all in the 10 to 15 lb class and the one that the shark had a bit less ;D

Not a big deal compared to most of you guys --  however, here is a 4 pound, 21 inch rainbow from last week at Shaver Lake -- 15 minutes from our house.  Back by Tunnel Creek -- just outside the current swirl from the inflow and falls.

Speedy Shiner -- 4 colors down on leadcore with a 12' leader.  Kept a 3 & 4 pounder -- lipped the other 12 or so rainbows that were 12" to 14" -- released unharmed.

We had three dinners out of this one fish for Sue and I.  Friday, Saturday, Monday.

Butter, lemon, lemon pepper, salt, pepper, capers, rosemary -- wrap in tin foil.   Cook 9 minutes on the BBQ --
or 20 minutes in the oven at 350.  For me, a sprinkle of Cholulu Sauce when served steaming hot.

Spine and bones just pull out like a zipper -- nice firm and mild pink flesh.

Burning giant piles of slash timber today -- branches and junk.  Will be monitoring the 5 piles through the night and most of tomorrow.

Best,

Fred

A fun day turning the handle for a great crew on a great boat.  I am not a religious guy, but there is something magical about the Kona side, sheltered by those enormous volcanos and haunted by the ghosts of King Kamehameha and Captain Cook and all of those granders that almost makes me a believer every time that I spend a day on the water there.

Holy Cow! Randy :o
You are the Man! ;)
My Very first Shark four year ago.
I thought it was a blacktip, but now I know it was a spinner shark.
He also swam off strong. That is how I like to do it.
60 Seconds is my time limit for a shark on the sand after tail roping, dehooking and a quick pic.

You are a very brave man to unhook and release those sharks Daron!  I still have a scar on my hand from of unhooking a baby mako.  Ineptitude and carelessness are a bad combination.

Thanks John.  We found a big floating log on our way back in and turned 15 opelu into 15 mahi, slow trolling in circles around the log.

With all of the great fishing that you have for yellowfin, albacore, bigeye, black marlin and yellowtail, you probably don't have much time to miss the dorado.

You have to keep your wits Randy. I am more scared of the smaller ones when trying to release them.
You can't anticipate their moves when they are small.
That spinner was probably 100 lbs, when he came on the sand, he thrashed Violently.
Literally shaking the ground. He was coming off the sand at least two feet in his shaking frenzy. He looked like a pissed off Dolphin. I just waited until he was done and went to work.
He behaved after I pulled that 20/0 hook out of his Jaw Bone.
Right tools for the job will keep you away from those teeth.
That is my Dehooker in my left hand. Made of solid stainless, about 18" long.

You're right, my bad, and corrected.

That comment was referring to Lee's groovy little Sturgeon in the pic above my post. You don't normally see too many little ones caught and photo'ed.

My gar pics were from a bucket list trip back in 2011.

Got a wild hair one day and invited our own JV out on the bay.  I asked him to bring along everything we might need to catch a blue fin tuna.  He was up for it.  He brought everything,  we made a bait stop and filled the live well in a few minutes, ran out to a nice spot dropped in and shortly hooked up and landed this 50lber.
Like we did it all the time.

I would say with 100% certainty that this was an aquarium or goldfish bowl dump fish. Survived and thrived to grow up. The name of the urban fishery is Midas Pond..so maybe someone knew about goldie. ;).

I put it back to surprise another lucky angler in the future. It sure surprised me when that bright  orange surfaced after a brief tussle.

This morning San Diego Bay, 1/2 oz Chrome Kroc with 1/0 Siwash. Unfortunately, it was low tide and could only get so far down the rocks before the slippery ones below the high tide line. Made for difficult release without touching the fish. These two unbuttoned themselves while I was trying to grab the Siwash shaft with hemostat.

Alright , rogan, right back atcha. After this I wil have to dig deep and pull out some Cloud pics. My iPad only holds so many.

Soooo....a nice golden grassie a-la-kayak caught. And a little fattie Common @ 13#.

BTW, that linear mirror carp is gorgeous. Definitely a great scale pattern to recognize again on a future capture.

I've got a few Mirrors in my quiver too.

Steve (oc1),

Since I don't know anything about Koi and the grading system and desirability of the all types and styles, would care to share your knowledge?  It's something I'm interested in, but I haven't been able to learn about it (something about having a wife, kids, work, other hobbies, etc... ;D)

Brett,

I mostly fish Maricopa County; urban lakes and the big impoundments, but that guy came from the salt river.  He was a by-product of fishing for the carp.  I plan to try a few trips targeting them, and the other "chub" style species this summer and fall.  Only fished Yuma area once, its a long drive for a day trip!

Steve-O,

I got skunked today :'(
The grassers were there, but not interested in bottom baits.  I managed to get them feeding on the surface (floating dog food), but they didn't really like them, they would pick them up, spit them out and repeat a couple times.  They never found the one on my hook.

And I figured out my problem, old cell phone pic and the file size was waaayyyy too large. So here is the second pic from the re-capture...

One more and then that's it. Here is a pic of myself with a 35 lb chum and my buddies dad with a 37 lb spring way back in 1995. Turned out to be the IGFA world record (and line class) beating the old record from Alaska of 33 lbs .................... still stands. Hey Bill nice catch but that looks like a Golden Grouper to me. Though in the same family as a Cabrilla, which here in the states are also called Spotted Grouper but I don't think it is a true Cabrilla. Though many of the people down in Mexico call all of the grouper family of fish Cabrilla.

Here are some pics of Cabrilla, A.K.A. a Spotted Grouper.

Some of my favorite fishing pictures don't include fish in the pic so others might not find them interesting. I know you are looking for older pics here but here a few from a little ways back.

1999 with my son, 12 years old at the time, on his first mini long range trip (3 dayer) with his first BFT ever caught.

I love this pic. My dad with his grandson setting out a troll rod looking for a sundown screamer. Same trip by the way.

This is the next year when my son has a way better time managing the bigger BFT we ran into on this trip.

I don't know if any body will notice but these pics are on the SOA. It's kind of hard to tell because they are before the rocket launchers, rod holders were put on the boat aft of the bait tanks.

See no fish in two of the pics but I personally like these.

Your right I should of said leopard grouper when I said spotted. But I'm still not 100% sure if Mexfish is correct in this 1-2% call that the fish change color in certain stages. I know some marine biologist don't agree on this either, but what do I know? I just fish.

I thought it was a regular cabrilla during its change phase. But interesting to hear that some scientists don't agree and think it's a totally different species. Food for thought

No, different line class.  The fish that knocked me off was a upriver slug caught in a Skeena River tributary, mine was a fresh saltwater fish caught 7-18-87.  The same guy beat his record a few years later on the same river.

I'd be really happy with $10. Might only get half of that. The fish might sell for $15 but after fees and shipping costs you get less. I've heard horror stories of guys who have shipped fish to Japan and actually ended up with a bill because the meat was tainted!

Nice fish.

My wife buys her ahi from a guy that parks his truck alongside the road with a cooler of cut and wrapped fish and a hand painted sign.  He will only there the day after catching one so he's sort of a road-side fishing report too.

Not too many days like this one from NJ anymore, the regs for fluke are horrible now! 3 guys limited out, largest was 10lbs, plenty in the 5-7lb range.

Fluke seem like a flounder or halibut to me.  How do you fish them?  a live bait?  or cut pcs ?  on the bottom ?   From shore and retrieving slowly or just sitting likr catfish?   Just wondered??   Are they seasonal?   or just the regs?     ???
