Title: International V VSX 16 Clicker Mind of Its Own
Post by: deepwater gom on April 27, 2024, 11:52:48 PM

Have a VSX 16 and when the reel drag lever is backed off, and reel has free spool, when you turn the hand crank, it sounds like the clicker is on and very loud even though the spool is not turning and the clicker is in the off position.

When the clicker is engaged and you peel line off the spool the clicker is on and loud as it should be, when the clicker is off and line is pulled and spool turns clicker is silent.

I have always assumed that when a reel is in free spool and the handle is turned there should be no clicker noise, maybe I am assuming wrong but wish it worked that way....

As it stands, every rotation of the handle sounds like the clicker is on all the time when clicker is not engaged to the on position.....Drives me nuts.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think what your hearing is the spring-loaded anti-reverse dogs.  The dog noise should be quieter than the actual clicker though.  Spring anti-reverse are noisier but more reliable than the ambassadeur "wing" type.

I thought that as well but the dogs are on the other side of the reel and don't ratchet until spool turns.

Is it an early (pre serial # J100001) or late model, there were some changes in the clicker.   Try the upgrade and see if it cures the problem.
