The Hedgehog tool prevents screw-up's if it fits your reel.  There are also knock-offs now.

Used mine twice and the pin bent, way too weak for the reels I use.

I find these pins a serious nuisance.   Even with the AT pin remover patent I battle, will modify mine a bit but the spools on my Trangx are very soft and I have to be extremely careful.

Boca Bearings and Hedgehog both have good ones.
