so, ed is in because i 'm not letting him off the hook. i don't care what his wife says. don and hank are on the list now because i screwed up on the last trip and i have to make amends, and randy and jad are on the first-timer's list because they pinged me and asked. the rest of you guys? i'll get in touch as soon as i can. remember joel couldn't make it for 2018 because he had a wedding to go to. mark thoman actually went fishing on another boat! can you believe that? and bill had the nerve to get cancer. yeah, it was the same excuse i used for 2017. i guess he gets a pass.
yup, lots of phone calls to make!
If the 2019 trip will be later in October or early in November I might be able to make it. I'm signed up for the Phenix 10 on the Excel from 9/29 - 10/9 and the Merritt 10 day charter from 11/6 - 11/16. I would bail on the Merritt trip for you guys. It's the one last year where I caught a 298# and a 321# YFT!
What's the estimated cost on this trip?
Put me in coach.
I'm in too! Jimmer
well, it looks like we're starting the list already.
pj, figure $3k by the time it's all said and done. do NOT buy gear for this trip. we will have plenty.
Put my name down too.
Can I come along if I promise not to bring the flu next time?
GA Mike
Hope you have room for me. Steve
I'm in.

skip the phenix trip and come with us. we will likely be the second week in august again. (correction, october!!!!)
Mid August works better for me, on top of cleaning gear and putting fish up I had fall things to do, all of the leaves fell out of the trees in 3 days.
sorry, lee, i mis-typed. we will be scheduled for october, the same slot as 2018.
3K is a little steep considering I have to do something huge for the wife's 40th B-day in mid October!
Maybe 2020

Involvement vs commitment is like ham and eggs, the hen is involved and the pig is committed. I'm committed to the Phenix 10 day on the Excel! If the SoA can work with that then I'm in, if not... well, I'm not.

Two in a row, I like that trend!
I want to go but decided to take my family on a vacation trip next year, but plan on me going the following year.
Fishing 50# braid with 35# fluoro for yellowfin and yellowtail was a blast. But fishing 80# braid with 60# top 60# for yellowtail was putting on the meat fast. Nothing like pushing up the drag so the fish can't run and winching them in. Hahaha. They never stood a chance.
Alan,
Sign me up for 2019!
Pete
i think we're full........
I think you should run 2 trips Alan. This trip format is the best. Relaxing and fun. No combat fishing. Everyone working together. Saw offs are normally accidents not on purpose. Sawing someone off for their own catch only takes away from everyone.
Not to mention, great bunch of guys.

I'm in. I'll bring my old Target shirt that everyone liked so much.
Alan, can you add my name to the wait list too?
Rich
will do!
I saw that you were saying that the trip might move to early November to try to have better weather. If that happens you can put me back in again!
will do!
My annual 7 day Searcher trip for 2019 is from 10/26 to 11/3. Will see.
I'm delighted to be again on the list. Nothing-as Alan Knows-is worse than going through cancer treatment and missing a fishing trip. I figure at 15lbs. lighter, I'll be moving faster so think I'll try a jig stick. Better hit the gym a little as well.
Screw that, I'm hitting the gym constantly.
The Man
I'm there, I hit the gym three days this week and walked 10+ miles.

Mary said we need to get back in shape, I told her round was a shape....that did not go over well.
I tell others who complain about being out of shape that they're in shape because round is a shape. It isn't usually appreciated either even, or maybe especially, if it's true.
If this SoA trip isn't moved to November, I'm going to have to give up my spot for the October trip. My stepson just got engaged and the bride-to-be picked October 19th for the Big Day! On or about that date I'd been planning on reeling in a nice wahoo (or three) off Alijos. Who the heck gets married in October?
They are both great people, in their 30's, successful careers going, 1st marriage for both. And her Dad is a retired doctor who owns 1600 acres of prime deer hunting land only about 25 miles away. I plan to stay on his good side.
So showing up for the wedding with shoelaces tied and my pants zipped up is step one. And reasonably sober!
I'm hoping for an SoA date change to November 'cause I sure can't change the wedding date. If not, some lucky standby person owes my future stepdaughter a vote of thanks. And maybe a toaster (or a Mak 20).
But let me be the 1st to sign up for 2020.

Room for Someone New!
I have to bow out of this years trip. Seems that the throat cancer has migrated a bit and although all looks promising, I cannot go this year. I have to get an infusion every 21 days-not 20 and not 22! Since that would probably be about 400 miles out, it won't work.
I hope someone who's been reading this board jumps at the chance. That's what I did the first time and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Alan will have plenty of gear so just bring enough booze. Best of luck to all of you, I look forward to your report.
Bill
Best of luck with your treatments, Bill !
Wish you the best and a speedy recovery.

we've sort of hit the end of our list. if anyone has a friend that might be interested, please let me know as soon as possible!
What is the final schedule?
our trip is october 15 to 25. most of us will be arriving in san diego the day before. any chance you're free then?
Hi Alan
Is it trip the 23rd or the 25th 8 vs 10 days.
Joel
crud, it's the 15th to the 23rd, 8 days!
Alan, as you know, Karen is pretty reasonable about my fishing trips, but 10/23 is our anniversary and she would be very sad if I missed it.
Thanks,
Randy

Any idea on the destination? Guadalupe? South toward the Ridge?
Jack
Hi Jack,
I wish I knew as well, but looks like we will find out when we get down there.
I'm bringing a 25#, 30#, 40#, 50#, 60#, 80# and one spinner outfit. Other than that, I'm not sure what I'm bringing.
Bryan
Always fun planning for one of 4 destinations.

My friend Mike is bringing a lot of gear, he was the owner of a tackle shop in the greater Portland area. He plans on bringing well over my personal "limit" of 10 rigs.
Have a safe and productive trip, wish I could be there.
OK, Wai
I just dug out my steelhead gear. Think we'll head north?
Jack
that would be a first! ;D
Got the mustad order on time.
my guess is 40lb is the sweet spot. i'm concentrating there, and also bringing a rod each for 30lb bait, small jigs, 50 lb bait and yoyo, 1 for wahoo bombs, 80 ???
Jack
I caught my 28# wahoo on an Andros 5ii with a 30# top shot and a prototype jig stick... I'm sure I could have brought in a larger fish with that set up. It was gaffed in about 5 minutes once I discovered that I had low gear and winched that baby in after a couple of runs. I was lucky that it didn't run straight to the boat when I was in low gear. I don't think I would have thought that fast to change gears at the time.

My conventional reel bag has been prominently sitting on a chair facing my car in the garage for the last two weeks. See it everytime when I exit and return in the car.
Yes Wai.... ;D
That is good, load it first Monday night
