when alan 1st kicked off, seems a long time ago now,the tld5 was my first attempt.
inside was all done without the sleeve, and the mega handle is huge, never seen 1 before
I didn't like it,so I put the reel away and haven't used it much
pulled it out yesterday for handi(keith) and my $100+shipping was a bit exxy.
im gunna keep it now,so I fixed it to suit myself

took me 1/2 hour to make a carbon fibre one,
tld5 is a finesse reel to me
the mega handle will go on a knock-em down drag -em out reel
cheers

I bought 5 strips,cut at the factory+postage=$65aud=ten blanks
2 I have unfinished.
cut to lenghth, drill hole to take knob
(http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb326/wallacewt/IMG_2069_zpsb8c26ac3.jpg) (http://s1200.photobucket.com/user/wallacewt/media/IMG_2069_zpsb8c26ac3.jpg.html)
screw was 4mm,use 3.5mm,you want it tight.
(http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb326/wallacewt/IMG_2073_zps51ee0690.jpg) (http://s1200.photobucket.com/user/wallacewt/media/IMG_2073_zps51ee0690.jpg.html)
lay a ss washer on the blank just inside the end
and drill 3.5mm in the centre
ihad a template id made 2 yrs ago
you can use any handle you like for a template,
just make sure your c/f strip is wide enough.
(http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb326/wallacewt/IMG_2075_zpscc4119e2.jpg) (http://s1200.photobucket.com/user/wallacewt/media/IMG_2075_zpscc4119e2.jpg.html)
here is the temple(blue) and finished blank,(orange)
at this stage your c/f strip will be rectangular.(orange)
(http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb326/wallacewt/IMG_2076_zpsdad9c10e.jpg) (http://s1200.photobucket.com/user/wallacewt/media/IMG_2076_zpsdad9c10e.jpg.html)
they are held together  with the shaft out of the knob
(http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb326/wallacewt/IMG_2077_zps53ed729f.jpg) (http://s1200.photobucket.com/user/wallacewt/media/IMG_2077_zps53ed729f.jpg.html)
now close them up and tighten.
the screw goes through the washer, blank and template
scratch a outline with a sharp scriber, scratches easy.
dremel,  cut out,  grind to finished shape
now the tricky bit, handle to reel shaft.
(http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb326/wallacewt/IMG_2074_zpsf674b176.jpg) (http://s1200.photobucket.com/user/wallacewt/media/IMG_2074_zpsf674b176.jpg.html)
this hole in the centre
some are square, flat on side with round ends, rectangle, dont matter
use a drill bit a couple of sizes smaller than the width.
hand file till it just doesn't fit, rounded ends like mine use a round rat file.
I didn't have one,so I put the drill in the vice with 3.5mm bit, turned it on and pulled down on the blank until the ends were done.
finished,not quite
(http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb326/wallacewt/IMG_2079_zps21186032.jpg) (http://s1200.photobucket.com/user/wallacewt/media/IMG_2079_zps21186032.jpg.html)
put it together and drill the last hole.finished
writing this takes a lot longer than making the handle
any ?,s just ask
