Regardless of Penn's response, I don't think it would be possible to get rid of them with enough return to cover production expenses.  You would need to get some quantity of pieces made for each model number too.  Much of the market segment is right here and reading this.  Show of hands?? 

A guy on ebay replicated the Alcedo Micron kingfisher emblem.  He had them listed for years and likely gave up instead of selling out.

If the project was a roaring success, reel collectors would make a distinction between original emblems and reproduction emblems. A reproduction emblem would be like a re-painted greenie.  As with re-painting, the reel would be priced accordingly.

That's an oldie by Okuma standards. Unfortunately I'd kinda classify it as coming from before when Okuma really got things together in terms of reel manufacture.

It will be a pretty simple reel. If it's still working OK I'd say go fish it until it dies. Any parts that aren't generic (i.e. bearings) will be near impossible to find.

EDIT: I'd say it's late 90s or early 2000s. Around then, my understanding is Okuma were primarily an OEM producing white-label reels for whoever wanted to put their name on one. I remember seeing one of their catalogs from around that time and it had dozens if not into the hundreds of different models. They were low-cost reels, I don't think they were particularly bad but they also weren't setting anyone's world on fire either.

I came across this Okuma GT65 reel. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the history of this model. I am not coming across much online. It is an older reel and fairly large.

If someone made aftermarket emblems would there be any copyright infringements to be considered ?

A service for us as die hard PENN collector guys,not just to make a buck,is my thinking.

Producing a few hundred emblems for reels made 50 years ago is not something we would consider at this time.  We appreciate the support of our Brand!  Thank you.

I do not have data on where the emblem(s) were actually made, our facility in Hegins, PA made our spinning reels up to approx. 2005 and most tooling, dyes, fixtures, etc were all destroyed about 10 years ago.  I would assume a Vendor local to Hegins, PA made the emblems or they were produced in PENN Hegins..  Making a few hundred emblems is not something we would consider doing at this current time. I put a buffalo nickel on my larger greenie, looks like it belongs

Can they be reproduced BY  penn or can someone do it without worrying about patent infringements ?
