Title: Penn 113Hn Baja Special
Post by: borchcl on April 22, 2009, 02:55:19 AM
Hi Alan, I was wondering, would the hardened gear and stainless pinion from the Baja fit in the standard 113h? Also, where did the x/0 system of sizing reels come from, and what makes a 6/0 a 6/0 etc? Really love this site. Many thanks.

sadly, the hardened stainless steel gears from the baja special will not fit the old school penn senators.  don't be fooled by the exterior. it is a totally different reel on the inside.

regarding the "X/O" designations, the "O" is actually an abbreviation for "ocean."   A "4/0" designation really means "4 Ocean."  i'd have to double check, but i believe that this was started by the Ocean City manufacturer of fishing reels.
