Title: Metal Fly
Post by: Bill B on September 27, 2021, 04:25:38 AM
I have heard stories and rumors of a trout lure made in the 70's called a "Metal Fly" or "Metl Fly".  It is not a traditional fly, but more of a bent spoon used for trout fishing.  Has anyone heard of it or have an example?  Bill

I owned one for a few years, a green Metl Fly.  Never caught a fish with it because it was too light for me to cast with my spinning rods.

The Metl Fly was a very lightweight, perforated, metallic "fly" in the shape of a Helin flatfish.  The smaller models Helin's flatfish were numbered F1 through F7, I believe, and commonly called "fly rod flatfish".  At least I caught some trout with my fly rod Flatfish.
