Title: possible to update old classics?
Post by: Phinaddict on March 02, 2011, 03:10:27 AM
Hey all,
On  the speedmaster III, IV, Star 15/30 and 20/40, could the drive shaft bearing (key #483 on Speedmaster III), be swapped out with an anti-reverse roller bearing, to minimize handle play, assuming one could find a similar size replacement? Would this work or am I missing something? I do not have any of these reels so I can't try it, but maybe someone out there might have an answer.....

it's possible, but the failure rate for anti-reverse bearings is so high that i would not bother.  you would never remove the dog and spring so the reel will click anyway.  no point.  sorry, alan
