Title: Shimano Charter Special 2000
Post by: Andredoffay on June 19, 2013, 01:36:11 PM
Hi Alan,
Wondering if you could help. I have just serviced my 2 Charter Specials and thought all was well!
Once I put them back together, when I check the free spool the handle turns backwards, what is the problem or what have I done?

Thanks

Andre

I'm guessing that you did not attach the spring to the anti-reverse dog. You'll need to pop open the reel and remove the main gear to see what's up.

Hi, spring is attached, if I hold the handle the spool still turns in free setting, as soon as I let the handle go it reverses with the spool.

Is the pawl installed backwards?

Either the anti-reverse dog (pawl) is installed backwards, or the post in the side plate that the dog slips over is not straight. That post is press fitted into the graphite side plate and can get out of alignment.
