Crowlk, look around on this site, especially by the Penn Senators section. Alan (the boss) has some amazing tutorials and so do many other members here.

This is one of the best site for reel maintenance and upgrades, the rest just follow.

If you're still stuck I'm sure one of the many members will help out.
Good luck!

Sal

Sorry Mo...typing at the same time :)

Crow, it'll be really hard to pin down age for this reel - they were the same for decades. This one has a 2.1:1 gear ratio, I think. Sometimes the handle can be a clue that leads towards discovering the decade of manufacture, but we don't have one of those here. There were a zillion of these reels made starting in the late 30's and early 40's. Yours has parts numbers which didn't exist until about 1950, so it was born some time after that.

Sorry Sal, typing at the same time.

Yours for free if you stick around and show us how great that reel looks when you're done refurbishing it  ;)

Chad you are very generous.  🤙  Crow this reel appears to be pretty beat up, you may need to replace the gear sleeve and drags (carbon fiber) also.  Simple to do if you are tearing it down.  Mystic has those parts too.  If placing an order, might want to include some Penn Blue grease, Penn Oil, and Cal's Drag Grease too.  Holler if you run into a problem....Bill

You're right Bill, that sleeve does look a bit rounded.

Crow, I've got an old 4/0 that's complete but in a little better shape. If you want I'll just send you that and you should be able to put together a no cell reel between the two.

That's not a bit rounded, it is rounded rounded.  Definitely need a new sleeve.  Dominick

Age early-mid 50's. Numbers as noted by Sid came about 1950, the logo under the eccentric lever was moved up under the lugs in the mid 50's. Dad took thousands of stripers with these in his charter business during the 60's 70's and 80's, tough reliable reels, I'm still taking fish these days with some of his old Penn's.

I am truly blown away at all the great response and support, thanks again to Chad also, I have been fishing for years with my brother who I recently lost to cancer, haven't fished since but the boat and the water are calling, he was the wiz at reels, love the old pens, hope I can learn from all of you and get back on the water where he would want me, thanks again looking forward to being a part of this great community at Tani.   Kevin

yeah, this is the reel that really needs the stainless steel gear sleeve.  you'll have to get them now from mysticparts.  i have 114h's and 113h's, but none of the 98-60 jigmaster sleeves left.  good luck with the restoration!

Hey guys,
I screwed up!  :-\
The 113 that I thought I had to send Kevin turned out to be a 113h (I'm sending it to him anyway to practice on).

I'm sending him a list of parts he'll need for his 113 with links to Mystic Parts.  But, Is there anyone else that can help out?

He needs a 98-60 (preferably stainless), two 8-60's, a 10-66, a 23-60, a 110-60, and any "A" type handle (jigmaster size).

Thanks guys!

I've got a 98-60 (not ss but not rounded at all) and a couple of 8-60's I'd be happy to send. Also a couple of Jigmaster counterbalanced torpedo handles if you want (but you probably want a power handle). PM me and I'll get them into the mail.

Sorry for your loss Kevin, it is never easy. Memories, no one could take them from you, just keep remembering the good times.

I'm not sure were you are with this.
If you are still searching, I just remembered a friend gifted me a 113, it is used but in good shape.
I usually don't sell or give away gifts, but this particular friend would understand.

I have not worked on it, I want you to do it, but if you want me to service it, just let me know.

Send me you address on a private message and I'll get it out to you.

Best,

Sal

I was truly humbled, I used parts from Chads reel and Scribchs parts for my old penn senator, can you guys give me a name of a good company that deals with the old pens that I might complete this reel ? The one my brother and I used to use is gone, any advice would be helpful, well guys as we wait for spring I look out my old farmhouse window at the old Grady frozen in the field and think of strippers!!!! Thanks again so much and God bless!!!!! Kevin

Mystic is my first stop for Penn parts. Their service is way above great...top shelf! If they don't have it...then you can post in the wanted section here. 8)

Mystic is great. Unfortunately they have to rely on the USPS to get their stuff to you. That part of the equation gets messed up often in my experience. Like the part I was to receive yesterday for the reel I was to work on today.... not Mystic's fault, don't anybody get mad at me!
