Got an a used centaure half bail reel with full spool. Very crusted with salt and weather provably dried grease! Got an extra spool with no insert that apparently screws into spool in reel. How do you remove spool insert.
The spool is actually skirted and threads onto the plate behind the spool. Leave the drag knob & washers in place (tighten them knob down if you prefer, doesn't matter), hold the reel in one hand and unthread the spool from what is called the "front plate" which is behind the spool.
