been wanting to do this for a while. it's simple. claim your numbers in order, 1 through 100, don't just grab a random number or you'll mess this up. i'm taking #1 with this photo. it's my dad and his dog.
post a photo of you and your dog (or cat), or a friend or family member with a dog (or cat), and make sure you put your number in the title. i will pick a number at random, and whoever has that number in the title and has a photo with a person and a dog (or cat) will win a reel. it's a penn 99.

the reel will be awarded when all 100 numbers are taken. remember, the number HAS to be in the title (subject) of the post and you need the photo, any number of people, any number of dogs (or cats) is ok. i will go through the reel first, then i will ship it to anyone, anywhere in the world that the us postal service will deliver to. one entry per household. if you've ever wanted a really clean penn 99, this is your chance! alan

Dominick I had to look twice, I thought you were the dog and I said he's going to win for sure, but then I realize it was you on the right :-\
Trudy, Mike, "Mic", and 113
My daughter and my pup Sheba, meeting for the first time, two years later and they are inseparable.
by the way, this penn 99 was built from scratch by none other than tom loverso of new york!!!!!
9000 years ago...OK 9 years ago my wife and I were in the need of a new dog...She said I had wore out my welcome ;D ... So we went to the local shelter in Fresno and I walked the isles until I hears a voice say "PSSSST...If you don't take me home it's the gas chamber for me"...I looked at all these stray an abandoned dogs until I saw the most hideous animal in the world :o :o :o I looked at the cards and one stood out ... "Scruffy" I called the name out and sure enough it was her...The vet said she is fine when we asked about her kennel cough...NOPE...Genetically flawed he said ??? Yup, underbite, licks her own nose then snots & sneezes out her own spit...Love at first sight.

OK, for us rookies out here, what exactly is a Penn 99? Only 99 I'm familiar with is Barbara Feldon in Get Smart from the 60's TV show. Did I just show my age?
Is this like an old 1/0? Is it a collectible or for actual use?
Drag range/line test?
Sorry, I really have no clue.

Thanks! I searched in the wrong place. It would be neat to own a working reel as old as me.
I see you put the tank on ebay. That's a deal. Wish it had come along a week ago. I just purchased a partial upgraded 113H not nearly as nice as yours.

Yeah 99 is a great reel. Yeah I listed it but if someone here wants it I'll still give it to them for the price I posted. Just have so much gear I don't use lol.

We have 4 guinea pigs now.
Kinako - Brown like the powder we eat with Mochi - My daughter's favorite with mocha.
Mochi - Sticky sweet rice - My son's favorite eats.
Lilo - Just because it will match the movie.
Stitch - Because looked like stitch with big ears when he was born.

true, that, but considering all the photos dave has already taken, i'll give him a pass. a photo with him and the cat would be nice, though
we're up to 20. i'll give this another week at most. it's a beautiful reel, guys. and for those of you that do not know, a jigmaster 500 side plate is interchangeable with the 99 side plate, bringing it up to a 4:1 gear ratio. i might just throw one of those in so that you get your choice of speeds. maybe even some handle and gear sleeve upgrades, now that the gear sleeves are back in inventory.
screwed up with the gear sleeves, though. they were all organized in egg crates and i knocked some of them over. what a mess!!!!!!

Oh.
This is Tokio. She's a Maltese/Shizu, otherwise known as a Mal-Shi. I've had several dogs throughout my lifetime, but the wife wasn't so much of a dog person. Then, one day, with a 4 page letter begging for a puppy and promises to feed and clean up after.. we were the proud parents of a fluffy little bundle of joy! The promises held up for about a week. Now, after all but one of our kids have grown and gone, there's no mistake who "mommy" and "daddy" are.
I'll claim #21 with this pic..

And I wanna know...
If there's a little kitty in the running washing machine and there is no one around does it still make a noise? And if so.. What is that noise?

He jumped in the washing machine when I wasn't looking. Good thing I didn't leave the house right after turning it on. I heard him meowing from the kitchen. When I went back into the laundry room Belle, the older kitten, was looking at me like something was wrong. Then I heard Buddy meow again and I realized what had happened and stopped the machine. Fortunately he only spent about 2 minutes in there while it was filling with water, and only went around a couple times.
He did smell a lot better after he came out. ;D
i'm going to take the liberty of signing up dawn.

Ok members, lets make this happen. Alan does a lot for us and he doesn't ask for much, all he wants is a photo of you with your pet.
Lets give a little something back, it doesn't cost a thing.

It's Jackson Lake Dam in Wyoming. I believe that was snake river.
count my cat in as the fish inspector, he always comes around after you put away the water hose. he passed away last winter at age 18!
Last number I saw listed was 77. So I pick 78. This is pick of me and my little girl. She is my remote control guard dog
79. George the cat. He's a ragdoll car which means when you pick him up he goes limp. The is a real character. When I am tuning reels in the backyard I put on a lure with hooks and he chases them. He is very much a cat/dog. Ragdolls are like that. I was never a cat person but this guy has converted me. If my wife irons the clothes then he gets up on the ironing board. When I had a desktop PC he would sit in front of the screen because I was ignoring him. He is very stately.

Looks like #28 is open.
I will enter with the following series, the first one being the actual entry...
This is Greta. Full blood boxer, and master of all she surveys. Freakishly long tongue.
#1 Greta and Peggy (Mike's Girls)
#2 Greta and grandson Ethan (sleeping of course)
#3 Greta and son in law. Greta jumped into his arms and he carried her around for awhile saying 'I know baby, I know'.
#4 Greta and Unutt on the night Greta came home (Valentine's day, 2009). Almost 5 weeks old.
Well mannered, and well trained. She still smells like shampoo weeks after grooming. Unbelievably clean.
unutt
Does anyone else's dog have a favorite in the family, whereby the dog while get jealous if the favorite person ignores the dog and shows affection towards someone else instead? Maybe it's just the dogs I've had, but it is one of the funiest dog behaviors I've witnessed. Not to get off topic or anything here.

Always!!! ...nice pooch ;)
Tightlines666,
I know exactly what you mean. My boxer gets upset with one of us from time to time. It is the funniest thing.
She became upset with my wife a few years ago and would not 'speak' to her for three days. My wife thought I was kidding at first, but by the third day, she was convinced Greta was ignoring her. It actually made for very 'icy' conditions during that period. Two girls not speaking to each other makes for an uncomfortable situation on the home front.
It occurred when my wife failed to accept an apology for something Greta did wrong. After being 'scolded', Greta approached my wife head and tail (nub) down and placed her forehead against my wife's leg. I told my wife Greta was apologizing and she should acknowledge it. After a minute or two of trying to apologize, Greta gave up and began the three day cold shoulder. It was hilarious and obvious.
Well,
Since my son mike won't post a photo of his Dog, I will do it for him. he is a member here, just doesn't post that much.

True. Part of the fun is rebuilding them good as new after a crash. Or designing and building skratch planes. I started with cheap sailplanes, got into gas trainers, then gas acrobats, electric park planes, electric performance, and now I've come full circle and am back to the joys of powerless flight. We have a flying club here with some really talented members. A group of guys here started there own company making custom high performance, comp grade discus launch gliders. Pretty cool stuff.
Don't want to hijack the thread, but first plane was a $40.00 yellow bee. I still love flying those due to the repair and put it back up there aspect. I guess we just like repairing stuff.

Quite so. I suspect it's because cats, being supremely self-satisfied creatures, exist in a permanent copacetic state; whereas dogs, being perpetually worried about pleasing their masters, exist in a more-or-less constant state of anxiety. ;D

How big is she now? She definitely looks like a content girl.
My mother in law had one. I was amazed how smart it was. It played with the kids like it was one.
she's gotta weigh about 50 pounds or so, i think if we tried to duplicate this picture, she would be the one carrying me. She is very smart. In the morning, when she's hungry, she will knock on the door to let us know it's feeding time (usually around 630). I've tried to make a pen for her but it's useless, she always finds a way to get out or dig her way out . . . 2 beers though will make the trick, she will pass out next to me for about an hour, i think she gets in the zone after 2 beers :)

Yes sir she is she is an amazing dog
Boxers are amazing. By far the best dog I ever belonged to. We had a minpin for 16 years. I could take her or leave her. I was attached to the boxer by the time we got home with her. Absolutely people oriented.
Of course, she cannot cast worth a flip (gotta keep it fishing related), but I am working with her.

If tongue is the criterion, Greta can match the best of them. We call her the freakishly long tongue.
Going anywhere with her is like traveling with a rock star. Every one wants to have their picture taken with her. Going to Bass Pro with her is like attending a reunion.

Yes, when I go hunting for parts at Alan's house, he tells me it's in a certain box or container, and I say, "Hey Alan, look what I found" and his response is always "Where did that come from?, I wonder where that went., I've been looking for that, I knew I had one,..." Like treasure hunting. :D
In all seriousness, Thank you for the contest whether there is a prize or not. It is nice to see the other side of our lives.
i've got a near spotless 2/0 senator that will be up next....... ;D
2nd photo contest for 2/0.
You and your spouse! or You and your Gun! Maybe your car or truck.
Or better yet. How many reels you have. ;)

aiala, i'd like you to choose the next category. perhaps send me a pm with a couple of suggestions.
and this is gonna be no fun. i'm gonna have to find the reel before i offer it up as a prize. i found two more complete penn 99's, but not the 2/0 that i was looking for. i did find a gorgeous penn 209, brand new, never even spooled, still in the box. i'll figure something out!
The prize reel is only the smallest part of the motivation. The competition is the draw. You could put up a wad of used fishing line and the competition would still be intense.
Unless of course, Aiala suggests pictures of our favorite pink reels. That might take the edge off.
How about a plinth contest? I am thinking some serious creativity could occur in that area.
Mike
wouldn't be my first choice. no plinths here.... ;D
Me either, but I am sure I could come up with something to set a reel on to take a picture.
Deck of the boat.....
Tank of the Harley......
Forehead of the dog.....
I could go on forever.
Everyone topless ;)
:D
i think that's probably why we're letting aiala choose on this one.... ;D
Yeah, that went way weird way fast.

Mayhaps you should read earlier posts before soliciting suggestions.
Exactly. Even pink reel pix beats that option.

Seriously, I have seen the high school graduation dates of some of the forum members. I am not sure a pic of them (me included) is appropriate for Alan's daughter. Or anyone's daughter. Or any other family member.
I'll go topless, I will make a PINK reel, but NO on the speedo ;D
ok, we've gotta plan. but first, i've gotta find that reel. i'm wondering if i didn't look at that other penn 99 and just assume it was a 2/0 senator. i may have to find another reel. crud, i KNOW i had a 2/0 here somewhere...... :-\
Serously, topless with a pink reel is a plan?
no, no, no! something else. i'll fill you guys in later. i've gotta find that reel first!
I'm sure Dustin is getting worked into a froth again! :D
oh lord Daren you got me on that one lol. ;D
I think the 2/0 is in a pin with other complete reels. The one I pulled out of the box is a penn 99 with no line.
nope, checked everywhere. i wonder if i got crossed up with the reel that i gave away already? that's ok, i'll figure something else out.
Another 99 is fine. It will get the froth going just as much. :D I think you sold (or gave) that 2/0 to Dominick a while back. I'm not going to pose in any speedos or build a pink reel.
You have to draw the line somewhere. ;)

Boss,
I can even provide a Donor reel if need be. A Beachmaster 155 narrowed to 100 width with a new aluminum spool, stand and stainless steel crossbars and new drags. My latest inventions thanks to Sal. ;)
naw, it's ok. i got this! got a bunch of options. i'm gonna poke around the garage just a little bit more.
Well,
I am here if you need me.
I just bought a pretty pristine 155 that will look pretty nice.
They are getting scarce.
How about topless in a pink speedo sitting on a Plinth? :o ::) ;D
Many ideas are fun -- and this contest should be fun -- Thanks, Alan!
We need to remember that we have a lot of folks on this Board at different levels of experience -- some just starting to work on reels, some more seasoned, a few experts, some machinists, collectors, historians, designers, etc., etc...and, not all of us have a spouse, or immediate family, or kids, or a house, or a boat.
The last thing we want to do is become cliquish or non-inclusive.
Not all of us have either the interest or $$$ to own big boats, go on Long Range trips, or spend thousands on upgrades.
And most of us do not own massive amounts of reels & gear.
But we will all generally have one thing in common -- our love of fishing -- whether it be for Bluegill or Blue Marlin.
So we might consider something along the lines of a picture with the member actually fishing. Doesn't matter how old or new the pic is -- just needs to have the member, water, and a reel visible.
Just like each of us has been warmly welcomed into this group at one time or another. This would encourage everyone to be involved -- with something we can all relate to equally -- our passion for the sport.
Or something else along these lines.
Up to Aiala and Alan to figure this out.
Thanks again for the great contest, Alan!
Best,
Fred
Yeah! What he said!! ;D ;D
Fred, I like that idea, if my opinion counts.
What Fred said;
those photos are widespread;
so do not dread;
start your photo spread. Dominick
A fisherman, Dominick, said:
"These photos, like me, are widespread.
In Speedos don't pose
Unless you suppose
Such visuals won't knock us dead." ;D
~A~
This site is always good for a chuckle. Thanks Aiala. Dominick
I like that idea, but was thinking extra points for pics of members fishing when they were children, or from past times. Nostalga is always a winner, right?
How about a photo of you and your most favorite fishing reel that is fished the most.
Not necessarily the prize reel or the one that is worth the most but the hottest fishing reel that you own and has caught the most fish.
That is a good idea, Bryan...
Best,
Fred
i'll put something together here pretty soon. in the meantime, where's wally 15 to claim his prize?
I was afraid of that. I see a lot of new members show up and then after a little while, you never see them again.
I hope wally is not one of those "flash in the pan" types.
Is it too late to claim that I am actually Wally 15?
Or Wall.e?
Mike, I mean Wally15
Perhaps for future contests the winner should be allowed a specified amount of time (week?) to claim their prize, after which a new drawing will be held. :)
~A~

I once won a nice fillet knife on bloodydecks and completely forgot the contest, I had a PM and never saw it.. after 7 weeks after the end of the contest I finally saw it and answered back asking if I was still the winner or it was turned to another person and they told me that my knife was there waiting for my address and now I am a happy owner of a Bubba blade fillet knife
How do you like that knife Alex? I have had an eyeball on those. ;)

Sorry for the late response guys and girls. Had to make a rush trip to NC on Monday to stay with my 89 yo Mom for the winter snowstorm. She doesn't have Inet and I'm typing this on an old iPhone 3G. I forgot my password also. If I'm too late to win, my loss. It was fun playing. Taking Mom back to S GA today where it's 30 degrees warmer. (6 here now). Ill check back in tomorrow from my home computer.
Wally's back.
Congratulations. Send Alan a PM when you got back with your address.

for the price you cant go wrong, it might actually could cost a bit more cuz its really nice, the handle is awesome and the steel its sturdy and flexible, and have enought weight to just apply a bit force to cut any meat, feels like a small sharp machete.
I have 4 fishing fillets knives and this is one its 4x better than any of those.

forgot to take the after filleting pic, but it cut the YT meat like butter
this is the 9" tapered blade flex and Im considering getting the 7" for the smaller fish like triggers and spanish mackerel, the 9" its too much knife for them.

I AM back..in S GA. Swapping 6 degrees for 35 degrees. Getting too old for 530 mile 1 day car trips. Especially when my 89 yo Mom has a captive audience. Did not get to turn on the stereo ONCE in 9.5 hours. I love her to death, but wish she came with an OFF button.
Sent Alan a PM with my address info, he has graciously agreed that I'm still the winner and will mail me my 99. I don't have one, so I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas. Would this be a "working" reel or a "display" reel?
Now I'm crawling to the bedroom...after a stiff WT101 pick me up.
Just read where the August 6 day SOA was cancelled. Bummer. I hadn't sent in a deposit yet, waiting on my taxes to be finished to see how much I owe. I'll have to check tomorrow to see if the June 5 day is full.

I really have to wait for my tax bill to be finalized before I can commit to the June trip. Came out of retirement to do some consulting work for 3 months last year. OUCH. I almost worked for free.
Take your time on the reel. I'm sure it will be worth waiting for.
Just watched the video of your daughter pulling my name out of the bowl. Great job! Thank her for me. I'll send her some money to buy me some lottery tickets ;D I'll even split the winnings with her.
This next paragraph or two will be either boring or TMI. Minor point, I noticed she called the winning name "Wally Fifteen". It's actually Wally One Five. That was my nickname/callsign in Viet Nam. After 5-6 beers (back when I was "ten feet tall and bulletproof"), I've been known to call myself Fantastic Fifteen.
My full name is Wallace Michael Pate. I grew up being called Mike. But the military lists everyone by First Name - Middle Initial - Last Name. No exceptions. So, to the Army, I was Wallace M. Pate. The other pilots started calling my Wally as an irritant or a joke when I first joined the unit ("new guy" hazing), and it stuck. When I first signed up for this website, I just used a login name I use on some other military related sites. I had no idea this place was addictive and such a close-knit community. Truly Ohana! Very similar to my aviation unit in VN (those guys are still my brothers 45 years later), so perhaps my login name is appropriate.
I have also "met" the world's 2nd best helicopter pilot thanks to this site :) JoePlo also fishes the Florida Panhandle and he and I will get together and wet a line sometime soon. Maybe, between the two of us, we won't get lost in the GoM.
I know, TMI. But you were warned ahead of time.
Wally One-Five
Seeing as you survived Vietnam as a chopper pilot, and won the reel, you may consider changing your callsign to "Lucky Wally One Five" ;) :D

For the price of a Shimano Stella, we could both fly to Leuven Belgium and drink it at the brewery.

I know the contest is over but I wanted to share a photo of my son and Chevy. Chevy was a black lab that loved the boat. He would ride all day and stay on the look out for fish. When you got a hook up he would step back and watch. If you didn't land the fish he would give a look of disgust that was priceless. Unfortunately he passed unexpectedly last year. The boat will not be the same.

Why do you think they call it a bear hug? :)
Sid
Pretty Calico, Gary!
Yeah..I'd let the other one be skittish, lol.
That's one cool Calico Gary.....the bear is cool too, as long as he keeps his distance LOL
Here is my best buddy Jake. He is the oldest of my 3 kiddos. We got him full grown(12lbs) in the year 2000 from a friend....that makes him at least 17 now and teeth have all been extracted, but he still loves to run thru the house(between naps) and also loves the cat friskies and he is a seafood freak !! He is very camera shy and it can be frustrating to get a good shot.
Ted
Sweet little face!
I travel for work and my 10 year old Westie "Maggie" decided she was going with me.
That a cool picture.
Yep, very cool pic MJP...love it!

And another cool pic. :)
I know this a thread from last year, but it was fun.
I say we do it again.
I will post a new thread and we can go from there.
The prize will be a narrowed 155 Beachmaster provided by me.
Same rules, You have to post a photo of yourself with your pet.
It doesn't matter if it is a Lizard, Dog, Cat, Guinea Pig or whatever.
As long as it is your pet.

I will share! Here is my Chocolate Lab, loves the water and is the body guard for my 3 yr. old daughter. In both pictures he is eye-hawking the ducks.

I'm sad to say that my son's piggy Mochi (the one with the white butt in the pic below)
Died the morning that I had left for the SOA trip. She was probably the most friendly piggy I have ever met. She loved to be petted and would always come to you to be petted, although she did nip a little.
My son wanted her cremated so she will be with him. I never knew he knew what that was. So now she is with him along with her last paw prints.
My Boy has had guinea pigs for years. It is strange, some of them only live for a year or two and others live long as a dog.
Squirrel is at least 6 years old, the best I can remember. She has outlived her last two sets of room mates. This her third. She is waiting for me every night I get home from work.
Lucy and myself, at Christmas of course.

I know it's an old thread, but wanted to share my German Shepard/Doberman mix Brownie, who sadly pass on to chase rabbits forever 7 years ago...and a portrait my mom did of her from that photo....Bill

Bill,
Sorry about the loss of your dog!, But, Mom has some serious talent with that portrait.....Wow, what a great way to remember your dog!!!!
Brett
Beautiful dog Bill, sorry for your loss. Your Mom is very talented the eyes look so real, that's where most fail at.
Sal
So sorry about your loss. Your Mom is very talented - great portrait.

I could not agree more about your Mom's artistic talent. I am sorry you lost that beautiful dog. Dominick
Thanks guys....she was a very good natured dog....loved people and my kids as they were growing up.....I will pass along your comments to mom....she has been painting for probably 15 years now and always stressed getting the eyes perfect....she has been doing a lot of ebay sales now and usually has no competition at her local county fair. Not giving her a plug but she does a lot of contract work for people asking her to paint their pet portraits. All done from a high pixel photograph. If you send me a PM I can get you in touch with her......Bill
Heres my current plott hound/pitbull/ GSH Pointer.

Notice the beautiful stream and not a single trout in it. lol
One more in remembrance for the dogs that have past. One of my favorite and smartest dogs ive owned Border Collie/Australian Shep.
Tonight I will be lifting a Pint for all the Best Freinds we have lost.....Cheers Bill
Roger that Bill. I have to disclose that last image pictured, the pole and reel arent mine actually belong to a family member, its not my Diawa Opus; just saying. haha

I won it! Still in pristine condition...I've never fished it. Too lightweight for the Gulf fishing I do. And a waste just using it on a sabiki rod.
Only thing I've ever won. Except maybe for 2nd prize in a 2 person beauty contest. :)
I'd consider donating it back to give to the next photo contest winner - who hopefully could put it to good use.

My pet tiger is always waiting for me to get home,,,this time jumped up in the trunk,,,,ok your driving,,,,, ;D
My family just lost their last guinea pig today and another one 17 days prior.😭

that's the worst,,,that's way I didn't want another pet,,,but it's nice to do everything you can to make them have a great life and I know you did my friend,,,,, :)
Bryan,
We lost Puff Ball two weeks ago. She got an infection on her foot.
Then she had a stroke and lost her movement waist down.
I pampered her all I could for a week feeding her by hand.
She finally let go after 7 days.
Guinea pigs are fickle. We have been through Many.
They usually pass from respiratory issues or a seizure or stroke.
There is one that is over ten years old. Her Name is squirrel and she just keeps on going.
She always greets me the same way. Gimmee!
Her room mate is a young female with her for now. Miss Tiger.
I always name them by their colors.
Squirrel has outlived at least ten of her roomies now.
She is scrappy and doesn't take any nonsense.
They love green leaf lettuce, grape tomatoes, Strawberries, apples and carrots.
Puff Ball and Squirrel are back on page two. That was 5 years ago.
RIP Puff Ball. :'(
I'm sorry Daron.
Loosing a pet is hard. Maybe that is why I haven't had a pet for years before.
I have no remorse Bryan.
I give these little pigs the best I can offer them.
In their short time with me, I spoil them rotten.
Sometimes they don't pass easily.
I comfort them the best I can.
My Son loves his pigs. I just try to be there for them in their short life.
They all have there own personality.
Miss Squirrel is not the type of pig that likes to petted or held.
She is just as she wants to be.
That is why she is 10 and keeps going.
The loss of any pet is always very sad. Enjoy Miss Squirrel while she is with you, it's all we can do.
Peppie Surf Girl :)
Sorry Daron, and to your boy as well. It is always tough losing a pet, no matter what kind.
Sal
Condolences are necessary when a pet is lost. Dominick
As trivial as these guinea pigs are. They are such unique little animals.
Their own personalities and quirks.
I work every day and so does my wife. Well, kinda, but I don't have the spare time to dedicate to a dog or cat.
They deserve that. When I retire, I will have a dog again.
One that I can devote my time every day to.
I thank you for the condolences.
She was just a guinea pig, but she was a part of us.
Sorry for your loss Daron and Bryan
There is no less important pet than other one, as soon as de call it pet or give them a name they become part of the family
Well,
Miss Squirell just keeps on going.
She has to be over ten years old now.
That is Epic for a Guinea Pigs life span.
I can't recollect when we first got her, but I think she is even older than that.
A new thread will be started in her honor.
The same rules will apply. You have to be in the picture with your animal and it has to be living.
Cat, Dog, Bird, Pig, Skunk, Whatever.
The prize will be a Vintage penn of my choosing.
A Narrowed 155 with all the goodies, A 420 0r 430 ss.
Whatever I decide on. I will let the winner choose.
Bad kitty :o
howdy-)

My hunting buddies

Meet Scout, A.K.A. Wrecking Ball.
Pure Chocolate Lab and very ball focused and thinks the couch is his.
We got him at almost 3 months old.
He'll be 2 in August.
we've been adopted by this stupid cat. ;D

I have a Koi pond.
You'd surprised how my and my friends pets learn they can't walk on water over that pond.
