Going on three day deep sea trip and wanting to carry a spinning reel for back up. The only catch can only run mono and fishing in 110-150 feet deep. Looking at 706z. I find a lot of info on using it for surf fishing but nothing on offshore fishing. What do you guys and gals think.

It will work well offshore. Just don't try it on Amberjack. I don't think the drag can handle them.

Thanks for reply. Was thinking of using for casting reel on big mangrove with possible hit from red snapper on occasion.

It will do that for sure.

If we do anchor on a spot we chum heavily and catch out fish with spinning reels. I use a product called "Pro Chum". It's expensive but it works better than anything else I've tried over the last 45 years. It comes in a plastic package with the chum already it it's own mesh bag. It's freeze dried so you can keep it anywhere.

Once it hits the water it makes 5 lbs. of chum.

Mangrove Snapper we call Black Snapper up here in the panhandle of Florida. They really respond to chum.

The 706 will work great for mangos. There is a Teflon looking disc in the drag stack that can be replaced with a CF and increase the drag strength quite a bit.

Thanks Handi2 I have seen the product your talking about. I will definately pick up a bag before heading out. Thanks Newell Nut I will swap out the Teflon washer. How much increase do you think it makes. Below are some pics from last trip. The big boy on top was 24 inches long.

we use 9500's grouper fishing. you should be fine on snapper with the 706 and also makes a great flyline or pitch reel.

Newell Nut

I did not put it on a scale but you will quickly notice the increase in drag strength.

All of Penn's spinners come in with the Teflon washer in the middle but leave with a carbon washer. It's normal practice for me.
