Title: penn fathom 15ld2 drag issue
Post by: kml on August 31, 2017, 03:02:51 AM
I bought a new fathom 15LD2 for a 5 day trip leaving next week.

I had spectra put on it & just today went to set drags, freespool took a dump. Almost non-existent ( about 2 revolutions )

To get any drag from it, the lever cannot be pushed beyond "strike" without forcing it which I'm NOT going to do.... Lots of side load pressure to get over 6# drag

History as follows

I bought it new online, had it delivered to Basil for spectra winding.

When it was delivered to me I did nothing, but was AMAZED at the free spool, very excited.

I pulled the 60# spectra off & had another shop wind on 50# for more yardage.

Didn't touch it until today when I went to set drags for upcoming trip.

Free spool in crapper, drag lever difficult to push past "strike" just trying to get more than 6-7# ....

Bought it for a trip that departs Monday..... I'm no where near a reel service shop.

Any help ?? I dbl checked the "cam" install per this

Thx a million in advance

Welcome!

Can you loosen the preset knob at all?

It was great when it came from Basil and messed up after being respooled by someone else. I think that tells you where to look and where not to go to again.

Yes the Drag knob / dial can be adjusted out & in too....

Not sure what happened... but the free spool went to crap & not getting anywhere near listed drag ratings.

thx

I'm at a loss...what did they do to it when they respooled it?

Was preset up too high (when spooling reels I would set the leverdrag to a light/medium drag setting) and their line machine torqued something? Could a spool shaft get bent on the machine?
