Title: TYRNOS vs TLD
Post by: Whiteman on August 11, 2009, 02:58:39 AM
Went to the Shimano shop for bearings today and to seek out power handles for TLDs. But of course spent time looking at other Shimano reels and like the look of the Tyrnos 16.

Alan, is the Tyrnos a better built reel than the TLD ($A350 vs $A240)?

And others, anyone else used both?

the tyrnos is a GREAT reel!!!!!!  if i were going to send someone out on a long range san diego trip, my first choice would be with a set of very expensive accurate reels.  the tyrnos line, however, would be an excellent alternative to save some money.  i would recommend the two speed tyrnos 8, the 12 and the 20 with a full "tld-style" service, 50, 65 and 80# spectra and 30, 40 and 60 fluorocarbon topshots, respectively.  alan

I've never used a 2-speed reel. I assume you normally set up in the "high speed" and if you get the big one on that doesn't want to co-operate you drop it into "low speed" for more torque?
