Title: Darin's 112 rebuild
Post by: Reel 224 on November 26, 2018, 06:08:25 PM
So far I have taken down Darin's 112 90% Here is some pictures of the results I've found.

1. The indicator gear was separated from the spool.
2. mono was behind the spool and knotted up in the clutch & Pinon
3. Pinon shows some wear in the slot that engages with the spool

Clutch system springs should be replaced along with 11-60 & 12-60
Eccentric is shot, it should be replaced 22-99

Rudy: Those drag washers are close to 1/8" thick and filled the gear recess to the top. But I suppose a keyed washer could be missing. That isn't a problem because Bri Bri sent a five stack along with a new spool. Thank you for helping, it's a good thing.........................Joe

FYI everybody, I did not do this to the reel, I bought it for $12 plus $7 shipping, I would never trash a reel like this ;D ;D ;D
Thank you, Joe, looking forward to the transformation of my new teaser reel! Darin

Is it just the picture, or does the wear pattern on the main gear look crooked? If the pinion wasn't square to the gear, there may be issues.

It's the picture.

Darin: That spool that Bri Bri gave you is to small must be for a narrow 112. I fixed the old spool so I'm going to go ahead with that, as soon as I get other parts in I'll move forward with the 112 in between other work that's on the table. I spent a little time on her today cleaning and figurine out what I want to do with the drag system.

Go ta go and tend to Ruth's needs. Honey do list ;) :D ::)................................Joe

Hi Joe, I wonder what it would take to make the reel narrow using that spool Bryan sent? What is the part # on the spool? Thanks! Darin

narrow 112 is a 111 2/0. 65 Long Beach spool fits here too. My first frankenpen was widening a 65 with a spare 112 spool and jiggy base / bars.

Darin: I repaired the old spool and it is fine, why would you want to make it a narrow reel? If you do that then you would half to find posts or put a custom frame on it. You tell me what you have to spend.

I can spend your money easier then mine :o ;D ;)............................Joe

The progress on Darin's 112 clean up. The pictures showing some new parts most old and cleaned up parts, Brian's 5 Stack Alan's SS gear sleeve and star & SS dog. I'm waiting on some parts so I can finish. But this is what is going on...............Joe

Hi Joe, did the spool fit?  If not I need to try to find out what reels the spool fits in as I have a few more.

It's possible those spools are for the Seaboy 190, as you can see from this linked post they carry the 112 number on them.  http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=22621.msg276308#msg276308.

Also I noticed Bryan sent the thin washer 5-stack for the #5-60 gear. That kit will fall mighty shallow in this #5-66 gear. I found a better fitting 5-stack in this reel's gear can be made from standard thickness Penn washers. 8)

Mike: I did not try that stack yet so I will size it up and if it's not working I can add delrin or just use Penn washers that I have to fill the void. Thanks for giving me the heads up.

What did you think of the parts that I cleaned up?...................Joe

They look great! The chrome cleaned up nicely. That reel is going to be very strong with the steel gearing, steel AR dog, and steel gear sleeve. Not to mention the 5-stack drag and the 3/0's cage like frame. I think Darin is going to have a fantastic 3/0!

Thank you Joe.  Darn.  Either you or Darin can keep the spool.  It was a gift for the reel.  I'll leave it between the both of you.

Or make it a 7 stack. I noticed that working on a 113 black side plate reel.

Actually I stacked the drag system with a 1/8 stock drag washer on the bottom and continued with Brian's 5 stack, topped it off with CF and belvile.

It stacked up great and it has plenty of drag adjustment, but I did not test it for how much drag it has yet.

Darin's reel is dry fitted to see how it is doing, because when I received it the spool was not spinning and the line was tangled in the gears. The clicker Mechanism was off the spool. I fixed that to the spool.......................Joe

This baby spins smooooth and straight.
