Title: Curado Problem...
Post by: Board4life on August 02, 2011, 09:20:59 PM
Just got a used Shimano Curado that I want to service but I can't get the side to come off. The turnkey dial is stuck. I can't get it to turn. Anyone have any ideas on how to get that to turn without putting too much pressure. I don't wanna break it off and I hear that is rather easy to do. Someone suggested a warm soak will loosen it up but it didn't work.

Thanks

Robert

G'day Robert,
I've had the same problem.
Try some CRC 556 (or similar) with the tube attached so the spray is forced and directed appropriately.
If that fails, try some penetrating oil (such as Kroil) around the turnkey dial.
Leave the reel sitting left-side up for a few hours and try again.
When you twist the dial, grasp it as low and as close to the hinges as possible to avoid torsion on the plastic tab.
The locking mechanism is plastic on plastic, so the parts shouldn't be fused in the way metals/alloys can when salt corrosion sets in.
I worked at one over a period of days and finally got it loose, so it's worth persevering.
Good luck!
Justin
