Title: Drag Expectations
Post by: Leckbass on July 15, 2019, 05:34:23 PM
I'm curious on what the drag expectations are for:

Standard:
Original Black 113
Original Red Special 113

Upgrades:
Black with 5 washer stack
Red with CF washers

Probably 5-7 lbs. more on the 113 and 10+ more on the 113H. It's not only the power but it's the smoothness of CF drags that's more important. Jerky drags break line.

So the black senator would be in the upper teens and the red Senator would be in the mid-20s?

Only way to find out for sure is to put a top shot of heavy line on the spool and get out the scale with the rod arched under load. Heat the drags up with a dozen or so practice pulls before going for the max. Watch what's behind you in case rod, reel, or line breaks.
