Post by: old 1946 on March 25, 2023, 03:38:11 PM
Hello
Aquired a D.A.M.BERLIN SW68 reel,serial# 015726,condition good except for-
problem 1-Turning the thumb screw for the handle knob the knob shaft unscrews 2 into 2 parts
I know the knob is not correct.
Problem 2-1 screw holding the side plate,I removed the screw, how do I remove the side plate?
I have several DMs this is my first drum and I do not want to do any unnecessaty damage.
PS-Year Made

For the crank knob —-

I would suspect that it is just corroded or crudded up —- causing the knob assembly to unscrew —- which it shouldn't.

To remove the sideplate —-

Just take out the (1) countersunk domed German Silver screw.  Then use an angled pick in the screw hole to raise the plate.

This reel shows us the tight tolerances and fit of these DQ reels from the early 50's.  Almost unbelievable after 70 years.

I have plenty of parts for these if you need some.

Best Always,

Fred

Hello Fred
 Removed side plate,removed axel.
I removed the 3 tiny screws holding the rotor, replaced the 3 rotor screws thinking the rotor is threaded on the pinion gear.
if so right or left hand threads

Hello Fred
Please disregard post about threaded rotor it is not threaded.
Remove a ton of goo and found 2 tiny screws threaded in to the pinion gear
removed them a aha! the rotor came off.

Again Fred thanks for your advice.
