We were out fishing at the mangrove-lined river of Sg Mamam, and as usual, we'd go as far upstream as we can in the inflatable and start drifting downstream, casting at likely structure we drift to. On this trip, my friend produced this beautiful Ambassadeur 2500C but it sounded more like a pepper grinder than a reel and proceeded to cast without much success unless the lure was a heavy one.
My friend has a simple regimen for all his reels:
1) Take them out to fish.
2) Bring back to boat and hang up on the overhead rod racks.
3) Ensure that cabin and windows are locked and blinds are closed.
4) Leave the boat till next trip.
After the trip, I brought the reel home to find out what ails it and I took some pics along the way and this is what I did...

Gee Thanks!
excellent step by step
do you know if the numbers along the bearing cap have a purpose?
I mean, why 1, 2, 3, etc?
I just got a abu 6600c the big brother of this reel on your post I still wondering about those numbers and also if there is a way to put a bigger or more drag washers than the thin and narrow one they have stock (I already made a custom CF washer but same dimensions than stock outta one drag washer from a Baja Special but havent checked the drag numbers yet)
You can turn the ring with the numbers on it. Its meant to serve as a reference point.

well actually I already know the ring can turn, but I didnt found anything about the purpose or what kind of reference can be useful for those marks

It's just a reference for preloading the spool end for freespool for different lure weights. You can see the corresponding triangle on the cap. In practice it isn't much use as all the variables change.
cheers

Unlike Penn ABU uses the spool bearing to adjust the freespool for casting, the numbers give you a reference point.
