Jimmer, one of our generous AT members sent me a box full of OC parts. The package came a couple of days ago and it included 4 OC reels. Jimmer that was an especially generous gesture on your part. I thank you very much. If anyone needs a part and has the part number let me know. Jimmer wanted to make sure I payed it forward. I sorted out the parts and was able to categorize them so that I know what is in the envelope if the part No. is not available. Here is a picture of the box as I unpacked it and after sorting. Dominick
Be careful Dominick. Look what happened to Fred.

Hey Dominick What is the Number on Reel below?
Looks like a 922 ,but the handle may have come from the 915 ?

IF it is a 925 then it does have the small handle but it does not have a free spool function .The lever on that model merely works as an Anti -Reverse.
I don't know why they would make it that way since the 922 ,923 were made the in the same time time period .
Prob had a bunch of those internals to get rid of . I save the guts and make all mine Free spool .

Hey Dominick What is the Number on Reel below?
Whoever guessed 925 is correct. The eccentric lever does not put it into free spool. I suspect that that is correct according to Billy's post. This is new to me and I will take it apart tomorrow. Dominick
I was taking pictures of a generous gesture. It was a picture of 4 packages shipped to me unsolicited. After unpacking the boxes which contained 31 Ocean City Reels there was a note saying in part "please, please, NO public acknowledgements." So I cannot show the photo of the unpacked boxes as they clearly show the sender. The note also said "thank you Dominick." Go figure, the guy sends me a bunch of reels and says thank you. Well thank you, you know who you are and the generous gesture is greatly appreciated. Here are a couple of photos of my work bench after unpacking the boxes. Dominick
um, you had linda sign off on this first, right? ;D
Wow! Good on ya unknowen donor Both the massive donation and "not letting the right hand know what the left hand is doing" i.e. a biblical statement that means giving anonymously.

Alan offered me some OC parts so I think I am going to take him up on it. Dominick
Good to see all the AT members jumping on Dom's inquiry. Can only promote more interest in these reels.

Please assist me with old reel. It lookalike star drag is missing.

You may have the Ocean City "Starless Drag"
as per ORCA
Ocean City No.923 Reel
The 923 Topsail is the same as the 922 above but had a larger spool capacity and would hold 250 YDS of line.
my reel has a different handle and missing star!
the Ocean City "Topsail" No.922, a No.922F - came with no star. :(
Im confused, so many OC variations
Chris is Dead on Spot with the Starless Drag on your Ocean City 923 Level Wind Reel
The Stars will NOT interchange with Penn on those ( I say NOT but ingenuity and Brazing, Drilling and re-threading I suppose would be possible )
BUT if you want to change out your Ocean City to a Regular Drag Star it can be done with Ocean City Parts. .
Some Models you will need to change the Sleeve and Spacer to make it right though .
The 933 would have been made from early 1950 to around 1958 .During that span a lot of changes were made and some improvements as in a Fluted Spool , Bigger Handle and Stainless Gear on the level wind idler . Without seeing the other side I would venture your Reel to be mid 50's
They messed up in my opinion by removing the adjustable Level Wind Tensioner .Later Models before the Demise of the Company don't have the Metal Ocean City Badge but a CHEAP STICKER with TRUE TEMPER on it .
Those ARE BULLET PROOF REELS in my opinion .
Here is a 113 with the Starless Set-UP
Quotethe Ocean City "Topsail" No.922, a No.922F - came with no star. Sad
Im confused, so many OC variations
The F Designated Fresh Water Reel Seat No Rod Clamp and a little different shape to fit Regular fishig Rods
They either had a Star Drag or could be Ordered with the Starless Option .Otherwise same Reel .
Hard to see the badge on that one .... But it sure looks like a 922 tear drop starless 200 yard reel .
Another give away is the handle !!!

I enlarged the photo and it is a 933 .
If he will post a pic of the bottom foot and the other side plate we can date it better .
The Handle is what comes with the Starless Drag Reel as the Regular handle does not conform to the curve on the Drag adjustment .
another fresh image.
did some cleaning.
Much Better now we can see what is missing .
The Stop Lever .
The handle screws on the on this version (it IS the Drag Adjustment )then the stop lever is situated within your selected Drag Resistance you want then the Retainer Bolt.
I doubt I have one but will look and see .Of course others may have a lever otherwise you will have to convert it back to Star drag and that will require additional parts .
If you need a star, I think I have one. Dominick
Here are a few OC parts —
If the stop lever Henry is referring to is here — you are welcome to it — N/C.
But I do not know what it looks like. Maybe Henry will help us.
Best, Fred
:o I don`t see one !!!!
If someone could post a photo of the part needed — I and others could look through our other OC stashes of parts.
Best, Fred
Here tis!
this part is missing!. :(
That`s the adjustable one , maybe harder to find than the fixed one .
may be I can use
The Ocean City "Starless" Drag control No.795. The new "Starless" drag came out in 1957 and was named the Sportsman's Drag control No.795. Ocean City touted it as the "first major improvement on salt water reels in nearly 50 years".

Ideally if you can find that kit .
Another alternative is to get an old Beater 112 or 900 Ocean city off e-bay and rob Handle and Star.
Dominick, I would gladly buy one of the reels after the holidays. The only saltwater fishing I have been doing is for fluke, with a spinning set up. This coming season Id like to take a few head boat trips. So a reel I'd be looking for is for that purpose, if your willing to sell.

The timing. I wrote down parts for 922c last week and gave up when I found out hard to come by. Grandpa's old reel and I think he took apart and just never got around to getting going again. Attached a pic.

watching eBay and FB once a week.
Maybe it is a good idea to convert for star drag.

Are you going to fish with this reel ,or is it more of a novelty reel ? The starless had a very narrow drag setting ..
I haven't used this reel yet. Absolutely Im planning to try it for saltwater application, from pier or boat.
what I found that my vintage Penn, Daiwa, OC reels are not the best for distance casting.
Currently my setup is Shimano surf casting rod and Daiwa Slosh with British mag control.

Can't tell what series of the 923 you have (need to see the Clicker side of the Reel) to determine if you have the Level Wind Tension on it .
At any rate . This reel when coupled with the Right Rod ,Weight, Line and Tensioning on Spool and Level Wind Tension (if installed )will cast with the best of Reels . They will also Birdnest with the Best of them as well .
