Title: Abu 550 Plus Identification
Post by: BigTerp on May 24, 2018, 05:34:36 PM
Hi all,

I have a handful of 5500's that I'm preparing to tear down, clean, re-lube and replace the drag washers with some carbontex. I have 2 C3's, a CL3 and a 550 Plus. I have never taken them apart and was looking up the schematics for each as a reference for not just the tear down but to make sure I was getting the proper carbontex drag washers. No problem finding the schematics on the reels, except for the 550 Plus. The reel seat is numbered 89-0 90-91. That number does not correspond to any schematic on the Abu site for a 550 Plus. The side plate decals say 550 Plus and Ultracast. Any ideas? These were all purchased used, so I'm guessing it's possible someone swapped out the side plates or the frame causing my confusion. Or I could just as easily be missing something. Worse case I can tear down the reel and figure it out, I'm sure. But I'm hoping to have the carbontex washers in hand so I can do everything at once. Thanks!!

if you contact http://www.abugarcia.com/ directly, they can send you one.  otherwise, check https://www.mikesreelrepair.com/ for schematics.  they are all so close in design.

Thanks Alan. I appreciate the response. I sent an inquiry to Abu this morning, just waiting to hear back. What has me confused though is on both their reel schematic site as well as Mikes Reel Repair is there is no foot number to match the foot number on my 550 Plus. On both sites the only options are 91-0, 0102, 0101 and 0105, non of which match my particular reel. Wouldn't be a big deal if they are basically the same, but the drag system is different between the 550 Plus models requiring different washers. Worse case I guess is to tear apart the reel and compare the schematics to what I have in front of me.
