Today is Nov. 1, 2016, Lifelong fishing buddy and I are just leaving Puerto Adolfo Lopez Mateos, BSC at the northern end of Magdalena Bay, Baja. Just finished up 5 days of inshore and one "we tried to fish Offshore" of offshore fishing, but canceled due to 30+ mph winds and big waves.
We are driving to La Paz, BSC for another 4 days of fishing and some R&R around the pool with a cold one.

The young woman explained to us, here in La Paz, only women and children dress up in this day of the dead look.
Shrines with photos of loved ones who have passed on, trying to make them look as presentable as possible for then their souls arrive.

Felipe is so fluent in, yes, of course, Spanish, and English as well. His speaking numbers back & forth in both Spanish and English made our heads spin. We didn't even try.
This is what I enjoy with my travels, interesting events of the day in the country I'm visiting.

Thank Wayne nice report, when we were @ primary school the teacher incurraged us to learn French.
So I went home & told my parents about it, they recommend that I learn Aussie English first, I dont think I ever progressed past 5 out of ten, thats life ay.
my grandaughter took on Japanies, so they paid big money to send her to a private school, as it was the only school teaching japanies, the following year they dropped it, not enough students, into it, what a waste of money that was, cheers Don.

Good report Wayne. Might those roadside shrines be places where people were killed in traffic accidents? They do something much more modest here. The county does not like it because the shrines are on public right-of-way, they're distracting and might cause an accident.

Steve, your right buddy.
all those roadside Shrines and sometimes just a cross or crusifix is built or installed for people that died on a traffic accident in that exact place, they dont look good at the side of the road but they sure make you think about your driving and most of the time you slowdown your speed.
nov 1st is the all-saints day, "Dia de todos los santos"
nov 2nd. is the day of the dead "Dia de los muertos" , this day is a tradition when you remember your loved ones, it could be just with a pray in your home, visit them on their burial place or pantheon and leave some flowers and or the food your loved one liked the most and some people like to do those shrines on their job or home which have a lot of meanings on every single item or thing you see on it, the kind of flowers, the food, the inciense, the flowers ark, the candles, etc, etc
but the "Dia de los muertos celebration" start 5 days before Nov 2nd. thats why you could see places with paper trimmings and ornaments few days before the main celenbration day, which is today !
on Nov 2nd. normally kids have a celebration on their school with food, dances, etc in nov 2nd, girls usally dress like "La Catrina" and boys dress like a "catrin", which are an elegant dressed Skeletons, of course, this year there is no kids in the school so, we skipped that celebration for 2020. that's a pretty cool traditon that really worth to keep alive.
this is one of my daugthers with a dressed and with make-up as Catrina for a school day celebration, if had signed for a Catrina contest on her school she should have an entire make-up along the neck, shoulders, arms, hands, etc.
"Coco" movie by pixar (just like Dom said) really rescued the meaning of the celebration, its not just a kid's movie.

well, in this case the answer is yes, but only because she is a teacher of high school and when they have the celebration in school, teachers and students got dressed as Catrinas and Catrines, last year they have a constest of the best and most complete "Altar of the day of the dead", so, all students of each group have to go dressed as catrina or catrin as well as the teachers.

all the good fishing is at South from me, so Yep I had gone south to fish, actually my normal playgrounds for fishing is 2hrs south from where I live, thats "Bahia de San Luis Gonzaga" or Gonzaga Bay, then 2hrs more south is "Bahia de los Angeles" or BOLA aka Bay of Los Angeles which almost at the middle of Baja peninsula, those are the normal places where I fish, currently no time or money to go further, after Bay of los Angeles you need to go to BAJA SUR (different State than Baja), from my town to any of the good fishing spots of Baja Sur you need more than just a weekend to really enjoy your stay and because it really worth fishing more than just one fishing day, average of 8-9hrs drive south from my town is Guerrero Negro city, thats where you take the plane to go to Cedros Island, after that with an average of 4hrs more is Loreto, 2-3hrs more is Magdalena Bay and few hours more is La Paz, for finally few more hours Los Cabos.
I have my share to calm my fishing addiction going out on local fishing, Gonzaga bay and Bay of los Angeles, hopefully on a short future I will visit Loreto and MagBay and fish there.
Cute picture. Call it Halloween or Dia de los Muertos, the whole spooky custom is screwed up this year. You and Dom seem to have found a way to carry on.
