Title: Fishing weedy beaches
Post by: Strata on January 04, 2015, 12:45:12 PM
Hi everyone, been a while since I've been on, but I've got a small problem - I've just moved into a new house by a good surf beach, and have been fishing it a bit lately. I know there are some good fish out there, but the beach itself is quite reefy, and exposed to the weather. The end result is a lot of weed. I've learnt to find the sandy holes and gutters in among the reef itself, but I'm fighting a never-ending battle with getting weeded up. Doesn't seem to make a lot of difference what rig I use, I'm constantly pulling in weed. Just wondering if anyone's got any brilliant ideas of how to minimise the weed encounters?

Is this beach wade-able without putting yourself in danger?  If it is, look up pole poking.  It is an excellent and fun way to fish the exposed and semi exposed reefs.

Lots of weedless lures on the market-spectra fiber line for sure.

That being said if it's a heavy load on an incoming tide I often don't bother.
