For me it has nothing to do with seriousness, it's all about safety. I know of at least a half dozen incidents where drunks have either fallen out of golf carts or tipped them over. Two times people died. I'm pretty serious about staying alive.  :o  ;)  :D

A good hand/craftsman with a long drill bit and rat tail file could get them to the point where a good (homemade or not) rod reamer would get them ready to accept and glue in a new blank.

It's a question of over-the-top sales claims and a later failure to back up the hype.  Shimano isn't alone.  There have been any number of similar "lifetime warranty" or "forever" sales ads that later aren't backed up, either because of companies going out of business, manufacturers merging/being bought out, and plain old simple "we don't handle stuff that old" even though the sales lit said they would "forever". There are some that abide by old "forever" claims; I recollect a rod company that was selling boron rods with a "forever" warranty; thereafter, boron rods became scarce & hardly anyone was making the blanks anymore, but the company made it clear that, if one of their old boron rods crapped out, they would replace it with an equal or better quality current non-boron rod.  So, the idea you have to stock old parts forever doesn't have to be the case if a retailer really wants to do right by the customer.Or, simply be honest in your advertising from Day One.

They should be salvageable. If you were going to dispose of them, what do you have to lose, other than some time?

If you have a portion of the broken rod that you can get a firm grip of with a vice grips, vise, or other means, try heating the grip with a heat gun, hair dryer and see if you can break it loose with a twisting action.

It will take a lot of heat to break the epoxy bond. Another option is to try wrapping in in foil and throw it into an oven for 5-15 minutes at 350-400 and then attempt twisting the grip to break it free.

If you can't get a hold of the broken rod, you might try jamming a screwdriver or other object into the broken piece' hollow section instead.

Time and perseverance are you friends, Good luck!

I don't drink and fish. Because I'm serious about fishing. But the random times I play golf ill drink. Because I don't care about golf. But I got friends who are serious golfers who won't drink when they play, but do drink when they fish because they're not serious about fishing.

Pretty standard for petroleum based greases when the oil evaporates. Most synthetic and marine greases and oils don't do that.

I definitely agree with no alcohol on a boat or vehicle.
That's why I fish from the beach.

I only clean out the tractor grease one time.
