I use what I call the rule of twos when grill steaks:
It is simple and yes I do use a timer.
Grill of choice is a Weber Q-100 set to max temp.
After 3-5 minutes I scrub down the grill and rub it with a paper towel and peanut oil.
Steaks go on for two minutes.
with out flipping them, Press with medium force to hear the sear going on for a moment, then rotate the steaks one quarter turn leave for two minutes
Flip steaks, mild press for a moment, leave for two minutes.
rotate steaks one quarter turn and leave for last two minutes.
If the steak is thin, on the flipped side shorten the time if need be.
If thick Add a minute to each side (2.5 minutes turn, 2.5 minutes flip).
This has been a really good method for me and this grill.
I have found it works well when I am on a grill other than my own.
