See below. Stuck my hand in beer cooler to numb and pushed hook through back of the joint (using my other hand with stiches still in it) to be cut off with dikes....
Ouch ;)
What was the thumb op for - arthritis?
trigger thumb
Ouch, been there.
Ouch ouch ouch, brings back some painful memories, hope the hook was clean and you heal up fast.
And that my friend is why I keep a small pair of bolt cutters on the boat, around 12" if I remember correctly. I have tried cutting some rusty hooks with dikes and had to really bear down with 2 hands. Not sure I could do it to myself. Small bolt cutters works pretty well although I haven't had to try them in an emergency like yours. Ken
did you catch anything with the new trailer?
Oh Man!
That Sucks. :o
Was in a boat once where an inexperienced fisherperson gave her dad a piercing, complete with a grotesque earring( a large bass plug). No wire cutters on the boat, he wore it alla way home. Asked him if I could take a picture and he looked like he was gonna kill me. TAKE the wire cutters !
Gfish
Brother that makes my skin crawl....glad you got it out.....Bill
Huge crawling cringe!
Ow, man.
I've hooked myself, but never that bad.
Hope it heals well.
Done there, been that!
Got this one on my 4th trip to Alaska in 2003. The fish hooked me. It had broken off on a two hook mooching rig at sea and was caught by me on a Mepps spinner in the river. I reeled it in, netted and bonked it. Then put it above me on the bank while I untangled my lure from the net. The fish, a nice big buck Coho salmon, revived and started flopping down the bank towards the water. Right as i reached for it the second loose hook of the mooching rig slung right into my finger and the fish continued to flop - setting the hook - and taking me along down the bank until I got my knee on it and cut my self free.
The hook stopped underneath my fingernail so there was no pushing it through to snip the point and barb off. Had to go to the clinic. Sorry if the photo pose breaks the 12 year old rule...that just happened to be the finger the hook went into. ::)
ow. just ow.
yeah, me, too! fortunately it was a barbless salmon j hook, but it was still in one side and out the other..... :-\
Reached down to unhook a chinook on the bank from a double hook rig with my bare hand (Dumb) I always use pliers. Fish moved and drove the free hook into the tip of my middle finger into the bone. Game over, emergency room here I come. It is nice to know that the emergency room doctor uses the same pliers as me, just sterilized. Lesson re-learned.
Damn, John, hope you heal those hands up soon. I bet you drank plenty of beers after that one. ;)
Dom
John,
I'm not trying to one up you, but I think this one takes the cake. It was a cm from his carotid.
Took three hours of surgery and his neck is jacked up to this day.
One of the dangers of Shark Fishing,. Kayaking out the bait.

DARON YOU WIN... Dominick
Naw. Naw, I want no part of that.....
bad part about the hook in neck was hook was attached to yak and yak was jumping around in the surf!
Yup,
Just like this one too. I try to put a wine cork over the point before I go out.
@ the OP,
Ow! hope that healed already.
My son and his buddy were fishing a little while ago, and his friend got himself hooked.
I do believe it finally drove home the reality of it to him, after all my preaching, cautioning and showing him pics.
One hook in his nose came out easy enough, but the one by his eye was a tad more touchy.

I don't know why I re-read this thread :o I must need more pain in my life.
Tim
I've got some pretty bad ones on the government network from commercial fishing accidents, but I'd rather not share the carnage (+They are technically government property). I didn't get any photos of the times I have been hooked (too busy tending to the injuries).
John
This is why I carry a set of Knipex 71 31 200. A little pricey ($46 on Amazon) but worth it. Easier than bolt cutters to use and I haven't found a hook they won't cut.
Sorry no pictures, but last weekend I was tying a salmon jig and while tightening the knot, slipped and drove the treble straight into the edge of my left hand.....my buddy said "Ohhhh I can get that out", what he didnt tell me was this was going to be his first time actually doing it....anyway a pair of needle nose pliers, a good twist and yank, some fatty tissue and we went back to fishing....here is a picture of the offending jig and where it ended up...

I was glad I missed this post and now I'm regretting it.
I can't believe you guys all stopped for pictures?
if you don't have pictures it didn't happen
remove foreign body, soap and water, neosporin, bandages, check and change the dressing every 12-24 hours, tetanus update within 72 hours. :-\
There should be a warning that this thread is not for the squeamish.
