Title: Mitchell Riptide 4/0GL any good?
Post by: troutman561 on May 17, 2017, 01:24:29 AM
My uncle gave me a Mitchell Riptide 4/0GL he lovingly stored outside on his boat. The outside looks like crap but it reels smooth and the drag seems to be fine. I figure I can put a little time cleaning her up and maybe throwing some carbontex drag washers in there if it is a decent reel. Basically what I am asking is: is it worth it or is it a crap reel? Cant find much about it online.

yes nice reels if looked after & kept clean & lubed, I striped a 6/0 riptide down & rebuilt it last year, the line leveling systme has plastic cogs in it, if your neglect them the plactic part strip, yes you could convert to CF washer, I cut my own, they are not a collectors item as they are post 1983, made in Japan, I will get back to you I got some parts from great britton also schematics I maybe able to send you a copy, find my email address on the 349 Post I have just run with, the email address in my profile is incorrect & I am not sure how to get it corrected. cheers Don.
