Title: Newell 229-5...
Post by: ErnieK on August 22, 2018, 08:40:31 PM
Just revisiting... Put a little work into them with regular service, a brian's 5 stack drag system and I really don't believe there is a better rig for fishing 3-4" sardines for the local 10-25lb yft.  Every year my arsenal gets a little fancier, most of my stuff is avet 2 speeds, just added a shimano tranx 400... All of these reels I want to really like, but it's the Newell that consistently catches fish.  I'm really glad that forums like this exist and keep these reels alive.  Thanks to everyone who contributes, it was invaluable when I was going thru my reels. - Ernie
