Title: 5500ss grinding gears ?
Post by: lmg on August 20, 2012, 06:57:50 AM
I purchased a used 5500ss along with a few other SS series reels. The 5500ss seems to be way rougher than the other reels. I have opened and serviced all the reels and was wondering what can be done to the 5500ss to smooth it out a bit.  Thanks

X2,
You should be able to see if the gears are domaged on those reel just by looking at them, if they look good  replace the bearings.

Thanks Alan and Alto. I will open the reel up again and take a closer look. I packed the bearings with greased and they seemed fine then. I believe it may be the gears since the reel does look like it has lived a rough life.
