Need a left-hand retrieve reel for jigging and mooching for 10-30# salmon in Puget Sound, have not had good luck with an Avet SX 5.3, Accurate too heavy.
Looking at Everol Vertical Jigger vj6 or 12, as well as Jigging Master PE4. Have also read about Ducro 10 LH. Any thoughts or cautions from those in the know???

Wow, judging by your choices I guess budget not much of a concern.
Just wondering, what problems were you having with your Avet?
Avet---corrosion (clicker) and too easy to put reel into freespool while fighting fish. ALso some issue with uneven drag. Many guys love the Avet, though....
Budget is an issue, but I want a machined from bar stock kind of reel, not forged or stamped out, and something that will last more than 5 years hard fishing.
While I can't realy comment on the Everol or the Ducro 10, the Jigging Master is a well known and proven reel with support in this country if you buy it from Kil Song at JignPop. These reels hold up on big tuna. The PE4 is a bit larger than the Ducro 10 and holds more line than either the Ducro or the VJ6 and weighs the same as the Everol VJ6. BTW, what Accurate is too heavy? The BX-400N (same as the old 197) only weights 1 oz more than the JM PE4 or the Everol VJ6 at 18 oz and has about the same line capacity as the JM. It is 2 oz lighter than the Everol VJ12
I had a Boss 270 Magnum, but it was a righty. Accurate BX400 Lefty listed at 20 oz......Everol 17 oz.

Someone on another firum recommended Aleutecnos 8V---anybody here have experience with Aleutecnos? The price is outta sight: $621 !!!

Settled for a CaNYON 10, VERY SIMILIAR TO AVET MX. WIll pick up a Maxel sea Lion for a trolling reel, closeout priced from Maxel America....would have loved the Everol or the Gorilla, but $$$ got the wife's veto.

here in Indonesia we have a brand "team kamikaze" that have a product line named " Extreme jigger. priced at 325 USD. i've used it and you can search in Youtube with keyword "Xtreme Jigger".
it's very similar to JM but less price. if You want go super serious, go with Jigging Master. build tough, powerful drag and pleasant to use.

It may be a clone but it isn't a JM. Just because they look alike, doesn't make them equal
aWHich is better---the Chinese reel, or the Taiwanese one?? THe MAxel reels, in countries where it is sold and supported, have a 5-year warranty, vs 2 years for Canyon, and 1 year for many other reels=, including JM, whose warranty does not cover bearings.

I own a Maxel reel. It's identical to the JM's I've used before. The clicker is in a different location but thats easy to do. Even the parts diagrams look identical. Reel dimensions are the same. I've had poor Asian copies of reels before that broke quickly but the Maxels are very different.

I will be putting it to use on some big Thai catfish in about a month. Should have a report after. My reel's from Europe and came with a 5 year gurantee and I have to say the manufacturing is top class.
It's possible internals may be upgraded in JM reels if they are the same reel. After lots of fishing that will be clear."
There was a post that showed the internals of Maxel and JM, looked identical. I think I'll TOFTT and try the lefty Sea Lion.

The JM has a proven track record on large bluefin tuna (200+). The sealion may be OK for what you are fishing for. I can't realy comment on them

yep, that's one of the reels I'm deliberating on! One criterion of choice is weight---the Canyon is only 14 ounces sans line. I;d like to keep it under 16 oz, as I'll be holding the reel for jigging and mooching, not using it in a holder. Extreme drag is not necessary, 10# is enough for king salmon. Do you know the price on the X-power lefty? Does it come in blue?

The SENTINEL is XPower. It is just a 2 speeds. It is not 16 ozs because of the thicker gears.

OMOTO VS 10 will be around 16oz, but you might have to get it from AU. You can also get the Atlas 200 (it is the same reel made by OMOTO as VS10).
