Let's get this party started..... I hope you boys are getting ready and are hungry! I just left the butcher shop and got a three and a half pound tri-tip and 8 pounds of Frank's Red Hot chicken wings!
I also picked up some artichoke/jalapeƱo cream cheese dip, chips and bread....
Plus my wife is making us a homemade cobbler!
Uh okay, Alan and I are here waiting for the chicken wings and cobbler.

WHAT a rag-tag bunch of grizzled old half-baked anglers I've ever seen!
I'm sitting in a hotel in Astoria, NY, waiting to have Easter Sunday brunch with our two Grandchildren, and wishing ALL OF YOU WELL on your FIRST drop, & let us know what results with your day.
Opening day and those plagegic beasts have not seen any dropped baits since last year late. Should be a fantastic day north of Morro Bay.
Jonathan, we are all expecting YOU to maintain some sense of semblance with your angling group - NOT!
Any who, you all have a great day, yack up all your great stories and post the heck out of your day later today.
A blessed Easter Sunday to each of you.

One of the smaller fish we caught yesterday.
I caught one smaller than that! Sorry no pictures of it though.
Great fun and a good time. Dominick
david and i drove down on friday and met rich who drove all the way from pheonix! glenn had only a quick drive from los osos, so the four of us had dinner on friday night!
saturday we headed into virg's and larry's marine. randy pauly has alot of his gear for sale at larry's. i spent most of the day working on leaders and cleaning out my rockcod boxes. had alot of stuff to go through. i was hoping that the guys would show more interest in rick berg's gear, but we had only a few takers. knowing that we would be fishing up to 300 feet deep meant one pound weights, so no light stuff. maybe the next time we can do a shallow water trip and i can add some incentives!
the weather was beautiful, as you can see! this is me and ed!
here are jon, big tim, david and randy. or is it randy and david? the beards make them look like twins.
jp, ben and mike sym. the boat was so crowded that it was nearly impossible to make your way up the rail. there were fill sacks of fish blocking your way on both sides!
mike, rich and glenn. within a few minutes, they would all be hooked up.
all nice reds!
it was about 2.5 hours up the coast, and back. here's morro rock!
dinner after a long day of fishing!
and a word from our skipper!

Playin' with the camera...Alan chillin' on the ride out.
Every rod was bent on nearly every single drop with only a couple exceptions, there where some unprepared folks fishing very light gear that managed to create not just more tangles, but some of the biggest I've ever seen. At one point I think I saw 9 lines tangled with six fish on them. It was pretty much non stop action hauling in the biggest reds and Lings I've ever seen.

Randy with a nice one
Likin' those Camera effects Big T. ;)
No Golden Carp for you this time Brother. ;)
Who won the golden carp for the smallest fish? I'd bet it was a tough competition for that golden carp with those monster reds and lings being tossed on deck.

Maybe next time bring a bucket of 16oz weights, give them away and
insist the tanglers use them!

My sentiments exactly Mike!
It was a most excellent trip all around, great company at the house and fantastic fishing.
Of course being honored with the Golden Carp was just the icing on the cake.
;D

Well, I made it home. Long haul on the return trip as I had to stop and get a couple errands done on the way. Just shy of 1300 miles round trip. I'm bringing a friend next time!
It was great to meet you all. Thanks for showing the new guy how its done. Looking forward to the next trip.
The fishing with all it's tangles turned out to be a great day. My 4TN worked flawlessly with a tilefish rod. Everyone was great and lots of laughs.

Sorry, I should have said "get to the North Coast."
They always seem to be in SoCal.

Looks like you had a great trip! Wish I could have come, but I was celebrating 33 years of marriage up on the Mendocino coast. The wind was blowing about 20 kts up there on Sunday! We were watching for whales, but we couldn't see them for all the whitecaps.
It was a great weekend with good friends (both new and old), amazing food and solid fishing!

So how did you do on the mud marlin on Monday?
-Mike
Great report thanks for showing us, you have to expect some tangles when your fishing that close together, best to remove all the rigs & swivels, then untangle, at, cheers Don.
Mike, I had trouble finding a spot to fish in the bay. Not a lot of shore to work with and I wasn't sure where fishing is allowed. The best spot was in the state park, but not sure if it's legal to fish there since it's not posted either way. So I opted to fish on the south side of the Rock, on the short beach near the jetty. Got one pick up, but he dropped it, I think he was too small for the bait. Tried the south T-pier for an hour at dusk, but nothing was happening and by then I was wore out! So I called it quits...
Next time I might try a kayak so I can get to the far side of bay and have lots of shoreline to work with.
You do any good?
No love for me either Rich. At least you got a pickup! I only gave it about an hour or so during the incoming. I bailed for home a little after noon. Really cool bit of coastline there though. I'm definitely going to make a concerted effort to get back down there and do some beach fishing again! I talked to my buddy that has spent some time there while salmon fishing and he said that the North side of the rock is pretty dang good for perch and rockfish. Everything just pushes down the beach into that corner there and gets stacked up.
I'll hit up him up about spots for rays and sharks down there. He loves fishing them up in Elkhorn slough near Moss Landing, up my way.
Next time you are coming out here, hit me up!
-Mike
Next time you get over to Morro Bay you should try Montana de Oro for yaks and low tide rock hopping. (check out youtube vids)
Tim
Great trip! Thanks for sharing! We're still trying to get past winter back East.
The rock cod I caught made great fish tacos. Mighty fine table fare to eat.
