Quote from: MarkT on June 10, 2022, 03:21:11 PMNo antique Daiwas or spinners for me on this trip!  All high-tech leverdrags... that's just the way I roll!

Zane Gray would be very disappointed...

MarkT

Zane used the best technology available at the time!  He wouldn't use that stuff today either.

Phfff...I'm taking the usual 14: 8 conventional, 6 spinners for the July trip.

WOW! I was feeling bad about bringing 6 on the July trip!!!! Are all those for you?

Nope. Anyone wanting to do old school is welcome as long as I am not using.

Conventional: 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 80, 100, 100
Spin: 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100

Until I achieve certain personal "old school" goals, I am not allowing myself to acquire any 2-spds.

My trip nxt week got cancelled so now I am even more envious of y'all. Even those of you luggin 12 rigs around. Lol.

I guess I'm the schlub on this trip with 3 rigs and borrowing 1  :P Bill
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

Wai, I must confess to owning several 2-speeds (appreciate the geezer-friendly low gear) but still love old-school the best... A couple of years back I managed to catch a 48lb Guadalupe YT on my old restored 114H, and it doesn't get much better than that.  8)

And speaking of old school, I can't make up my mind which of these beloved venerable classics to take on my upcoming 8-day for some light-line (30lb) fun: Original Penn 750SS, Mitchell Garcia 402, or tough-as-nails Penn 704...

I cherish them all, and deciding is stressing me out. Which one  would you pick?   ???

I hope you guys score many cows!  :D

Take them ALL!!! After landing first fish on the first one, swap out to the next reel, and repeat until all three have tallied one fish apiece.

MarkT

Don't forget your split cane rods. You aren't putting them on some graphite composite rod right? 'cuz that would be sacrilegious!  I guess you could get away with a solid fiberglass rod if you had to.

We have an opening for this 3 day...know anyone who wants to join us?

Who had to cancel?   I have been busting #### at work to get our current project to a point where the chimps can finish it.  I got it done today and finally had time to pack my dear.
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

Wai, I'm taking 7 conventionals, and only have room for one more reel in my bag... At the moment, I'm inclining toward the 704.

Mark, I can't remember if I've ever seen a split-cane rod, let alone owned one. And all my rods are old-school glass; to me, graphite composite is on the space shuttle or whatever, and I am much too old to change.  ^-^

BTW, I've only ever fished mono on a spinner. Can it work with braid (and mono topshot)?
