I actually have a split cane fly rod! All my saltwater spinners (baitcasters too) are loaded with spectra with a 4' leader. Straight mono is so last millennium! However, I suspect that some of those older reels wouldn't do well with spectra, the really old ones even have issues with mono. I have 2 speeds starting at 30#. You don't (shouldn't) need a 2 speed for 30# but it has 6:1 in high and 4:1 in low so even in low it's faster than a Squidder... with much better drags!

Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

~A~

Oh, Aiala, where there's the will, there's a way. I'm sure you'll work things out.

All of my spinners are braid main to mono top shot. The heavy offshore spinners 25lb - 100lb are configured with solid braid to hollow core connector to mono top shot using nail knots/nubs.

So am I... :P

But speaking of last millennium, back in the nineties at some point, that good ol' 750SS (filled with straight Ande mono) landed a 50lb YFT on the SUPREME! Stubbornly old-school, sure, but provably doable!

Perhaps I'll try filling with half braid, half mono...  :)

And Wai, I don't own any of these modern mega-costly super-duper heavy-duty spinning reels, just my golden oldies. I can't imagine landing a cow on a coffee grinder, but I'm sure it's been done... I wonder if any of the fellas will be using spinners on the SOA?  ???

There were a few coffee grinders used for jigging on my 2 1/2 day over Memorial Day weekend. Nothing was hooked and I think they were better off that way.  Ya know, catching a good tuna on a spinner is something that everyone should do... once!  One  guy caught a 80-90# BFT on a 9' rod and a Trinidad 30. It took a long time and he had to hand it off to a deckhand to finish it off. I caught a similar fish on an HX Raptor w/60# on a UC RGP Terminator and was able to watch the 2nd half of his fight. I do have 2 Saragosa's (6k & 10k) a TwinPower 14k and a Mak 20k.

What does 50/50 work out to for the mono?

The Quantum Cabo 120 (~$150 via fleaBay) has 380yds (?) + 20 yds mono top shot. Short for cows but can't control what will bite.

One of my objectives...only schoolies so far.

I plan on arriving at the landing around 0630 hrs to get a parking spot.  Will there be dock carts available to offload my gear? I know it's a NOOB question 🤪. I never parked there that early in the am.  Bill
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

MarkT

I'd leave your stuff in your car until 8 or so to keep from having to stay with the cart so long.

Naturally the total fish count will be the most important thing, but I'll also be quite interested to hear the parking report, what with the new system and all.  ???
