Title: Field repair - handle nut wrench substitute
Post by: jurelometer on October 13, 2023, 04:32:35 AM
Had to get into my Lexa during a trip without any special tools.  It turns out that my split ring pliers worked pretty well for removing the Penn/Daiwa style handle nut.  The nut was on snug, but not crazy tight.   Off and back on with no drama or scratches.

Borderline-unrelated but what field adjustment was needed?

Screws worked loose on the plate that restricts main shaft lateral travel. Pilot error during pre-service.  A couple chunky skipjack tuna with the drag buttoned down was enough to work the plate a bit loose.

Still glad that I did the pre-service. The main shaft bearings were dry, and three of the four right side plate screws were not even finger tight.  The fourth (the tiny one that is harder to get to) was so over-torqued that  I was worried that I was going to strip the head.
