i have no idea what this is for sure, but i've had it forever.  joey serviced it and loaded it with braid, but we can't get the "flipping" switch to work.  everything else works fine.  trying to clean out the garage!  thanks!  alan

So, Alan, what is the flipping switch? 😂

I have one of these burried somewhere.  Caught alot of bass and some pike on it.

Good reel.  I believe it cost over $100 back in the early 1990s.

I remember having a problem with that switch as well when I serviced it.  Not sure how, but I did fix it.

The flippin switch allows you to disengage from freespool by simply letting the casting bar back up.
Whereas when it is in the other location, you must reel the handle to reengage the gears.

I never really used the feature, and if anything, it rarely caused a quick fumble when trying to cast quickly and it had gotten inadvertently switched.

Might be useful for flippin heavy jigs into heavy cover.

with the flipping switch "on," the thumb bar automatically pops back up when you let go.
