Title: So I was wondering...
Post by: Beachmaster on January 30, 2020, 11:51:57 PM
Since Gladding South Bend marketed/imported D.A.M. Quick Reels could we talk about Gladding South Bend reels here as well?  Particularly the later reels with the red spool cap and yellow dot in center and the red plastic anti-reverse selector switch. I picked up an 870 (made in Hong Kong) several weeks ago at a thrift shop and can't help but notice how it is very similar in the looks of a Quick.  Now the parts are no comparison of course but I think these are pretty capable reels.  I noticed that they are very cheap on ebay.  Anyone else have anything to say about these reels?

There have been more than one member request a separate subdirectory for South Bend but the moderators haven't gotten around to creating it yet.

South Bend reels were popular here in East Tennessee during the 1960s, particularly the 730 spinner.  I still have one.  Those SB in the 900 series are definitely a solid reel.
