I took some reels apart today and I gave my new tool a try on some of the bearings. I have seen guys remove the shield on a pre-set bearing with a punch and a hammer; I tried it with this tool and it was a breeze. I thought I'd share it, for what it's worth.

Here I'm removing the shield on bearings with the plastic racers.
With a little patience you ould take the ball bearings completely apart, clean them individually and put back in

and reassemble after a good cleaning

as you could see, this is very much duable, you just need to make sure none of the balls get away
I hold the bearing in the cutter section of Needle Nose Pliers. The Bearings don't & can't slip out. No holes in my fingers.
