Title: Backing for spinning reel?
Post by: surfcaster on May 08, 2013, 02:56:19 PM
Hi, I just searched all the the local bait shops to completley rebuild my old penn 550ss.
I have an ultralight light action lamiglas rod & wanted to set it up with 20lb braid (6lb diameter) for small schoolie stripers. works awesome w/12lb mono but lots of break offs on bottom
problem is It would hold aprox 500yds of braid which is expensive. new to spin fishing braid. would dacron backing work Thats what I use for my conventionals
or should i use mono backing.
  Thanks Rich

Either will be fine. I personally would perfer Dacron because I can make a spice instead of a knot.

Thanks Bryan, It should cast pretty nice with the thin braid, & hopfully less lost plugs & bucktails too.
