Title: Everol 20/0
Post by: Shark Hunter on January 30, 2014, 01:32:25 PM
Mr. Janssen corrected me a while back about the Everol 18/0 not being the worlds largest reel. This is the 20/0. Capable of 185lbs of drag and will hold 1000 yards of 300lb mono. I have a plinth in the works! ;)

185 lbs of drag would rip the gunnels out of most boats if you put it in a rod holder. Even a hundred pounds is too much. That for sure is a specialized reel. I couldn't imagine the rod that it would even go on. No thank you, not for me.

You could bolt it to the front of a truck and use it to pull stumps...  (http://querytracker.net/forum/Smileys/default/eek.gif)

Conchy Dog! :D How many people can say they own the worlds largest reel! The drag is only 110 lbs at full spool. ;)

Well the 18/0 is only 1800 bucks I wonder what they want for one of those. The 18/0 was a dedicated gunnel or chair reel on the boats I worked on in the keys so I wonder if that's not made for fishing bandits down deep.

If you use it for lbsf put good brakes on that truck because of  the 185 pounds of drag of that beast, you dont want your truck to fall to the water. ;D

QuoteThe drag is only 110 lbs at full spool.

Actually, the lever goes a bit past the end of the scale. I dunno exactly, but i would guess it stops at around 140 or something like that. Bit more maybe. Like it matters...

QuoteI have a plinth made of concrete in the works! ;)

No.. the red one above is a two-speed too.

This is the Australian version. Invented by Lyster Ormsby in 1906

It takes 4 guys to carry it. We rig them with live bait. No drag and a 1:1 retrieve makes for a real fight

When I lived in Bondi there was a really old fashioned barbershop a couple of streets back from the beach with some photos like those and sharks that were caught around Bondi. There was a surf lifesaver killed in one of those rings in the 60shttp://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1301&dat=19670310&id=u4JWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=7-QDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6330,2530308

I remember that. That was a fun show. I'm there behind the camera somewhere.  Big Mike and Tunatoys too. Dave Ferell is a really nice guy. It was good to meet him, because we started talking about an old magazine article i had seen a long time ago, about hot rodding reels, and found inspiration therein. Turns out, he was the one who wrote it, back when he was just a little Dave and I was just a little Rob and the internet was only one page.

About the Penn 130, there is really no comparison. Just sizewise, it's like an entire Penn 130 fits in the spool window of the 20/0 or thereabouts.

Economically speaking Shark Hunter, be aware that there is nothing to stop you from flying over there and buying a whole bushel of them, but it just isn't very cool towards Keith Wichmann, (and company; myself included) who has devoted a great deal of time, energy and finances towards importing, marketing and promoting the marque in order to make it well-known and available to all, particularly in the USA. It is not an easy job, and he has been waiting for this day for years.

(and for what its worth, i don't know what import tariffs are on a high-dollar item like this are, but i can well imagine US Customs has an opinion on it)

.

Justice is Mine!
Glad to see you around my Man.
This reel weighs 20 pounds.
It took two months to get it once I paid.
My wife did the drum roll as I was opening it.
No Tariffs or Customs Myths.
It came right to the door without even a signature required.
I am very Happy with it. ;D

I will have to have a look see inside this Monster.
I want to see what groceries it takes to make 300lbs of drag.
The 110 mark at full spool is impressive enough for me.
It is the same width as the 18/0, but if you put it next to a Gallon of Paint. Its the same girth and height. ;)
The drag discs are as big as they come.
The neatest thing about this giant reel. All I have to do is send an email to Everol Italy and I can have parts just like ordering from Scott's.
I already have a Ergo Grip Silver Handle for the 20 and a complete bearing kit for the 18/0 on the way.
My Uncle Kenny always used that term. "Groceries"
He had a 56 Chevy that would pull wheelies because it had the Groceries. ;D
