Mr. Janssen corrected me a while back about the Everol 18/0 not being the worlds largest reel. This is the 20/0. Capable of 185lbs of drag and will hold 1000 yards of 300lb mono. I have a plinth in the works! ;)
Wow! Looks like a Cherry
185 lbs of drag would rip the gunnels out of most boats if you put it in a rod holder. Even a hundred pounds is too much. That for sure is a specialized reel. I couldn't imagine the rod that it would even go on. No thank you, not for me.
You could bolt it to the front of a truck and use it to pull stumps... (http://querytracker.net/forum/Smileys/default/eek.gif)

Conchy Dog! :D How many people can say they own the worlds largest reel! The drag is only 110 lbs at full spool. ;)
Well the 18/0 is only 1800 bucks I wonder what they want for one of those. The 18/0 was a dedicated gunnel or chair reel on the boats I worked on in the keys so I wonder if that's not made for fishing bandits down deep.
wow where do you got that reel. And what is it for?
All I have is the picture. Right Now. ;D
jaja :D
Now I'm gonna have to build a chair bracket for the truck just to be able to use that one , gotta save up some more money.
jaja ;D
If you use it for lbsf put good brakes on that truck because of the 185 pounds of drag of that beast, you dont want your truck to fall to the water. ;D
Y'all need some scale...
Impressive Robert! :o
It even the 2 speed! Is that a newer one?
Now that is a beast and it doesn't look as big as I thought, still need something to tie myself to on the beach with those drag pressures though.
QuoteThe drag is only 110 lbs at full spool.
Actually, the lever goes a bit past the end of the scale. I dunno exactly, but i would guess it stops at around 140 or something like that. Bit more maybe. Like it matters...
QuoteI have a plinth made of concrete in the works! ;)

No.. the red one above is a two-speed too.
.
Shark Hunter, you may need to refi your house to fill that with 500 lb spectra. :o
I want one of these... 87/0... 3 tons of drag... it even comes with a free hook! ;D

I think Robert just makes it look small William. Look at the size of those meat hooks compared to the drags! ;)
How about a Penn 32/0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGEHe3Thaxc
You're going to need a bigger plinth :D
Aiala Do you realize how much Braid you could put on that. Us Florida boys could sit on the bank in Miami and get a boat to drop our bait for us in the Bahamas.

Aiala that is very funny. ;D ;D Dominick
This is the Australian version. Invented by Lyster Ormsby in 1906
It takes 4 guys to carry it. We rig them with live bait. No drag and a 1:1 retrieve makes for a real fight

When I lived in Bondi there was a really old fashioned barbershop a couple of streets back from the beach with some photos like those and sharks that were caught around Bondi. There was a surf lifesaver killed in one of those rings in the 60shttp://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1301&dat=19670310&id=u4JWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=7-QDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6330,2530308
Sorry for the thread jack, any idea how much bigger one of these is that a penn 130?
Its cartoonishly big! :o This is a 5 minute video. At 1 minute he shows an 18/0. This should give you an idea!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jH8LI7ItPk
I remember that. That was a fun show. I'm there behind the camera somewhere. Big Mike and Tunatoys too. Dave Ferell is a really nice guy. It was good to meet him, because we started talking about an old magazine article i had seen a long time ago, about hot rodding reels, and found inspiration therein. Turns out, he was the one who wrote it, back when he was just a little Dave and I was just a little Rob and the internet was only one page.
About the Penn 130, there is really no comparison. Just sizewise, it's like an entire Penn 130 fits in the spool window of the 20/0 or thereabouts.
Economically speaking Shark Hunter, be aware that there is nothing to stop you from flying over there and buying a whole bushel of them, but it just isn't very cool towards Keith Wichmann, (and company; myself included) who has devoted a great deal of time, energy and finances towards importing, marketing and promoting the marque in order to make it well-known and available to all, particularly in the USA. It is not an easy job, and he has been waiting for this day for years.
(and for what its worth, i don't know what import tariffs are on a high-dollar item like this are, but i can well imagine US Customs has an opinion on it)
.
Doc is that you holding that 20/0 and gears?
Did you guys have to show one in red ::) .
No, that is the owner of Everol, and those are the drag washers. We have similar sized hands though. So the drag washers are like, the size of what... a 9/0?
.
;D ;D
You know, I was thinking about something. We had over 2500 visitors today, what if each would chip in a dollar, that should help with getting me that red baby for my birthday ;) ;D
I'd be happy to chip in Sal ;) ;D
I'll chip in if you ship it to me, I let you borrow it for a cleaning. ;D :D ;D
I got it! Lets have a raffle! Oh wait, that's Illegal. ;D
All right Daron...way to go ;). One day I would like to come over just to hold it..... if you don't mind.
Post some pictures when you get it.
Wait a minute, did you say you got "the reel" or did you say you got the solution :-\
That 4/0 in the video is one SWEET reel. Maybe if I sell all my penn's I could swing that!

Maybe you need to get a 20/0 Dominick. Your not the favorite anymore. ;)
Daron you can leave it at my house for safe keeping (usage) ::) while you head back to Kentucky. Promise to keep up on the cleaning. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;) ;) ;)
I'm leaning toward a Blue one. That's a 16/0 behind it! :o
I like the black ;D. The only attraction for me of the 20/0 would be the ability to use straight heavy mono, (250-300). But honestly I don't know how I would fish it. Its just so big...
All you have to do is grow up. Stay tuned fellas. ;)
The time has come for my first Selfie ever!
I finally own the Largest reel Currently Manufactured in the World.
Its been a long road. Persistence pays.
Life is Good. ;)
BOOM ! 8) 8)
Daron works out curling the 20/0.
How many reps D? ;D
That thing is sick!
I've been hunting this Unicorn for 30 months Erik.
Justice is Mine!
Glad to see you around my Man.
This reel weighs 20 pounds.
It took two months to get it once I paid.
My wife did the drum roll as I was opening it.
No Tariffs or Customs Myths.
It came right to the door without even a signature required.
I am very Happy with it. ;D
Congratulations Daron!
That reel is a true beast. The drag numbers posted on the side, just don'the seem possible. I am struggling to think of a custom 'unlimited class' rod blanks capable of handling those numbers.
WOW :o
That is a great selfie. Congratulations Daron, what a beast!! I'm glad you're finally holding the mighty 20.
I must say, after you mentioning it to me with details, I wasn't really sure it would get here.
I'm very happy for you, I know how you must feel right now.
Enjoy it!
Sal

Last resort :-)
That's brilliant Doc :D ;D
Well done Darron, and well earned by the sounds - stoked for ya.
Livin' the dream mate.
All the best, Justin
...and what a selfie it is.
Way to go, pal. You earned it!
Look out sharks, clear the beach, or pay the consequences. 8)
Enjoy her,
Dom
Daron, it's always great to live a dream, now it's time to put a IFGA stand up record on that monster. Good Luck, I really hope you can do it. Rudy
Wow Darron, thats some reel glad you scratched one off the list.
Damn man that is a beast master! No ocean creature is safe with that reel! Congrats!
Andy
Man, that's a big reel! How much 130# spectra will it hold? Of course, why would you want/need something that size other than because you can?
It's the mt, Everest of reels.
mark
Congrats Daron!
When you gonna fish it???
Maybe in September if I can talk my boy into going.
If not, its going to be next May.
I am two for two for the Skunk.
I haven't caught a Shark since last May.
Good job my man. That motor found it's way home. The question is, what's next????? Hope you get to splash before next May.
Congrats Daron, that is beyond a Beast! Terminator huh? You need to get a 'Terminator' from the film airbrushed on the side plate...A little Arnold makes everything that much better!
I one of those for my Jeep.
double purpose, fishing reel and winch.
Daron, you're an animal :o :o, and your patience paid off big time. CONGRATS !!
It weighs 20# before you put line on ??? ??? :o, holy cow, that's 8# heavier than the 16/0 jaws reel. For some reason it made me think of a book I read in school over 40 years ago....."Of mice and men". You are my hero buddy. Now fill it with line, get it on a big stick, then report back to us on final weight :D :D
Ted

Dan,
I was thinking more like the Silver Robot Terminator. That is what this reel reminds me of.
The skinless terminator is the real terminator.

I bet the 20/0 pulls more drag than a T-1000.

If you believe the scale on the side of the 20/0 Everol, it gets over 300# max drag :o :o
Ted
Yeah, that would pull T-1000's teeth out. D, you ought to maybe get an Advil before you set up on 300lbs worth.
I will have to have a look see inside this Monster.
I want to see what groceries it takes to make 300lbs of drag.
The 110 mark at full spool is impressive enough for me.
It is the same width as the 18/0, but if you put it next to a Gallon of Paint. Its the same girth and height. ;)
The drag discs are as big as they come.
The neatest thing about this giant reel. All I have to do is send an email to Everol Italy and I can have parts just like ordering from Scott's.
I already have a Ergo Grip Silver Handle for the 20 and a complete bearing kit for the 18/0 on the way.
My Uncle Kenny always used that term. "Groceries"
He had a 56 Chevy that would pull wheelies because it had the Groceries. ;D
I know what Groceries are braddah ;)
Check out this Sick custom Handle!
Sweet handle Daron..........the rest of the reel ain't half bad either. :o :o
Yep, that reel has "groceries" written all over it. :D :D
Ted
My rod butt came as I was leaving for work. I'll get it mounted to a rod so you can see what it looks like.
WOW Daron that is the great grand daddy of all reels?
I have no idea how you fish stand up with even half drag?
But that baby is a beauty I understand the desire to try it out. May not get a lot of use but every time will be a heck of a story.
Here you go Ted. ;)
Stuart Short #4 Butt mated to a 80 IGFA Calstar Blank.
I came across this picture today.
Reminded me of Sal and Italy, Where these great reels are made.
Gianni Sganzerla is still showing his son Paolo how its done...nice reels.
This is where the magic happens. Father and son, getting it done. ;)
Daron...that reel is something else...what a gem! :o
Daron, that reel is too much for me, but you're more man than me so it fits you well. Post some images of the fish. Better yet, post some videos of the reel working pulling in a monster.
Daron, if you are unable to snag that big shark where you are, come out to visit me. I know where there are some brutes here.
There are some Giants in Florida Too Albert. We just haven't crossed paths yet.
If I ever make it to Hawaii, We can fish together.
