Title: Roller guides
Post by: Rickman on May 04, 2013, 06:08:51 PM
Hi,
I've acquired an older rod that has the right length and action I use for the kayak but it has a roller tip and first guide. It's overkill for what I will do with it but shouldn't hurt. Both the tip and the first guide has stuck rollers. Gummed up with whatever for 20 years. The first guide I can get at things to clean up but the tip has me asking questions before using more force! I got the screw into screw thing out but the roller doesn't come out of the guide frame.....at least not with the easy pushing and pulling I've tried so far. Will the roller come out of the guide frame or is it trapped in there for a reason? It's not going to turn unless the insides of the frame are cleaned out.
Thanks for any help!
Rick

Hi Rick, try spreading the guide slightly with a thin screwdriver. Some of the guides have a slight counterbore on the inside.    Rudy

I wouldn't recommend rollers for a kayak. To much salt exposure
