Title: Vintage Penn reel ID?
Post by: Decker on March 26, 2020, 04:47:02 PM
I saw this for sale locally.  The owner says it used to have a Penn emblem on it that fell off.  There are no numbers on the sides.  My guess is it is a trade reel.  Looks like a 259 Live bait Caster to me.

What do you think?

Joe,
I could be wrong (and probably am...) but I don't think that's actually a Penn reel.  I think it just has a Penn handle on it.
It looks to squared off and the screws don't look right to me.

What's the left side look like?

Definitely the handle screw is wrong, but everything else looks like Penn to me.  Here's the left side, clean and smooth.  Some 99s that look that way.

I suppose it could be a Japanese look-alike.

The drag Star doesn't look right to me either, maybe it's the angle of the picture

Its not a Penn. Its a foreign knock off. Says Made In Japan on the bottom of the stand. Also No Penn ever had an emblem as seller claims it once had.

Olympic Dolphin?  Immec?  later Compac clone of Olympic clone of PENN  :o

methinks, not all Olympic-made K-Mart reels were red
(or, maybe, other colors were re-branded something other than K-Mart)

...is this a black 207/307 ???

Agreed.  Not a Penn, is one of those knock-offs.

The screws for the reel base seem to be internal, and rings do not look like a penn product.

It looks exactly like the reels made in Japan and labeled Heddon

Best part of that reel is the handle...

IMO
