I bought this Ocean City 112 from an on-line auction site because the black and red plates caught my eye. At first I thought it may be one of those reels that the tackle rental shops used to identify their equipment. I know that some of those shops used multi-colored Penns but I'm not aware of any of them using Ocean City reels. The OC reel is also in very good condition, whereas the rental reels usually show a lot of hard use.

The OC badge is missing from the head plate and someone scratched "112" on it.

Now I'm not sure if this reel was assembled at the factory, or did some previous owner assemble it from mismatched parts. Your thoughts, anyone?
George
Never seen the red and black combination. I have several of the black oc 112
I also have a OC 112. My reel is full of line
Penn's changed a few plates from red to black over the years.
Some folks don't care how it looks...a plate breaks, they change it out, color or no.
Rentals especially wouldn't care how it looked.
I think that is what happened there, most likely.

I would have to agree with Maureen. Ocean City most definitely made the Model 112 in Red. More than likely a repair shop made the swap.

The more I think about it, the more I agree with both of you.
