Title: Lunch with Ted
Post by: steelhead_killer on April 23, 2017, 05:00:00 PM
Saturday I was fortunate to meet Ted (Maxed out) for lunch and some good conversation!  He showed me some of his wonderful reels and custom parts as we enjoyed our burgers!  I picked up a T4N spool from him and as we were leaving he mentioned that he had something for me in the truck.  Outside he hands me this really cool Penn Long Beach 60 and a one piece split bamboo casting rod that is just immaculate.  The Long Beach was inscribed on the foot by its original owner "December 1946".  That Ted, what a guy!  It was great to finally meet you in person, learn more about Penn reels and life!  Cheers to you and all the good folks of this site that ultimately made it happen.

Ted is cool for sure, but I suspect the toys are 'immaculate'.

You don't want to be 'emasculated' I don't think.    ;D

OK so the story behind the card being declined.... I am really enjoying talking to Ted and seeing all reel goodies so I approach the waitress and hand her my card and tell her:
"I would like to buy my friend lunch please put his lunch on my card."
She says "Who is your friend?"
I say "Ted".
She looks at me puzzled.
"Weeellll Ted is not going let you buy him lunch"
I say "exactly! that is  why I am giving your this card now so we can avoid the argument"
Again looking at me like I am from another planet she says:
"you do know Ted owns this place, right?"
****Pause***** while I try to contemplate how to respond while becoming increasingly aware of my blissful ignorance of the facts.
I say "Well, take my card for my lunch and we will work it out on our own"
Cook delivers our delicious hamburgers and crinkle fries... and says:
"Your card was rejected"
I say "that is impossible, rejected by who?"
He says "me"

Ted you are a class act. Good times!

Andy

I did apologize to Andy for the awkward moment when he found out my wife and I own the business.(20+ years now). We don't wear the ownership on our sleeves because it keeps us on an even keel with our customers.

Hopefully the food was up to par Andy. Dicks drive-in has nothing on a Soundview burger !!!

Great story. I guessed you guy were eating at Ted's place when I read the bounced card part of the story.

Best smoked Salmon I ever had and the tuna ain't too shabby either. I want your catalog Ted, so I can order some of your specialty foods.   :)
