Daiwa / TD Sol spinning reel from mid ...
Last post by Warscott - Today at 05:06:15 PM
I have TD Sols that the anti reverse quit working.  I sent them off to be repaired to a new to me repairman and the repair shop said they replaced the anti reverse bearing or clutch. When I got them back, the anti reverse still doesn't work.  Reel handle just randomly goes backwards.  I have no interest in shipping them back again.  Is there something else that would prevent this from working properly?  Thank you.

Can the pinion gear be drilled out?  If so I would drill it out undersized and use a ream to finish the bore.  I would recomend doing the work on a lathe.

Quote from: DougK on Today at 05:27:01 AMbeen fishing my 1st generation version since new in 1990..
bought it for a bonefish trip to Florida, hooked one but lost it after a 100yd plus run, hook pulled loose. very sad ;-(
caught a lot of different things since then, in S. Africa and Australia salt, never yet caught a fish worth mentioning in US salt. Also salmon and steelhead..
It's true the lack of porting is an issue, have to pull the fly line off to let the backing dry out after rinsing. But, mine is going strong, still fishing it.

Here with a shark mackerel off the rocks in Oz when we were both much younger.. the shark mackerel runs in large schools, followed by squads of bronze whalers, hence its name.

Sweet!

The nice thing about a reel with no porting is less places for the sand to get in when you are beach fishing.

Quote from: Whit on February 09, 2026, 07:56:58 PMThe gears I ordered for the 3500c came in.  They were the "number 2" Avail Gears from Japan labeled for the 2500c.

They did NOT fit the 3500c.

well dagnabbit..
thank you for the experiment, I was thinking of ordering those.

I did get replacement gear and pinion for 3500 from ereplacementparts, have not tried to fit them yet tho.
