Title: Project Penn 114 6/0 done
Post by: Marcq on May 01, 2016, 09:05:01 PM
And I like it so much that I will be doing a 113h the same way  8)

So it all started with this 114 bought on ebay for dirt cheap
(http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww177/Marc1956/penn%20114_zpsph1ws31i.jpg) (http://s717.photobucket.com/user/Marc1956/media/penn%20114_zpsph1ws31i.jpg.html)

Made some space bar, harness lug, post, rod clamp out of carbon fiber also powder coat the reel foot and the handle arm.

Got a aluminum spool, SS gear sleeve, 2 rings, one side plate, metal washer and cut some drag washer, greased and lubed

Here it is  :-*

And the feel of it, hard to describe, feels weird to the touch but in a nice way

Would eventually like to make a reel out of carbon, a simple one that is, the stuff is cheap now days and easy to work with, cost me $25 for the fabric and epoxy, not bad at all and you don't need much tooling

Probably, but for being unique paint would have done the same  ;D

On my next one, I'll have some holes in the space bar

Thanks, Marc..

Wow Marc!  The CF looks fantastic, we messed with structural textile design in college a bit, CF and Kevlar were all the rage.

I'd like to know how you actually made up the spacer bars?
Did you use a threaded insert for the screws?
Beautiful work!

Here some that I'm doing right now for my 113H, I used composite of glass and carbon this time, almost ready to get wrapped, it's the difficult part I find, making the fabric bend around the post
