Title: Penn 285 Drag question
Post by: Bill B on March 12, 2017, 10:21:31 PM
Im setting up a Penn 285 DelMar for a friend, what would you consider a good working drag setting?  He will be trolling for stripers here in the Sac delta, using either 20 or 30 lb mono.....Im figuring 1/3 the breaking strength of either would be too much for this reel?

A Del Mar will do 10lbs with CF drags. The gear sleeve may not last very long but if it is replaced with SS the reel will work wonders. The hard part is knowing when to stop with the upgrades.
