Title: Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 7000c4ld
Post by: RamseyReelRepair on September 15, 2018, 08:07:55 PM
So I'm working on this reel and I'm not quite getting it to my liking. The parts are all good and I've cleaned and lubed it well but it's not as quiet as I would like. It's smooth reeling except I feel like I can hear and feel the gears. Aren't the tolerances not as good on these reels? Or could it be that it's just an older reel? I feel like something could be better but I'm not placing where. Thoughts?

Its not you. Its the reel.
They are a little different than the rest. You can only get them so good.

Thanks I hope that's it because it's driving me crazy, I have being able to feel and hear gears. I also don't like lever drags very much.

Roberts right. I had one of these some time ago & sold it quickly for the reason you speak of & others.

I fish primarily fresh water. Not very long ago lever drags were a new thing to me. I could not understand the need for them. The ones I used early on seem to suck bad at casting far & the dang load on the handle while cranking was more than I wanted to put up with.

However as time went on & I got my hands on some better 2 speed lever drags I found a lot of the issues weren't any where as bad. I also discovered a proper low gear was great getting big fish out from cover. The 2 speed lever drags have become the must have reel.  This isn't I believe because they are always the best tool for the task. But more for the bling factor.

When big fish are what one is chasing the 2 speed lever drag rules. Even some times for fresh water... Jeff
